- TReeceGreenville, South Carolina4 contributionsOutstanding experience - with hospitalityTake this once-in-most-lifetimes full Columbia Icefield Tour, including both the walk on the glacier and the Skywalk! The ride to the glacier, information provided, the walk on the ice and the views from the Skywalk all provide an incredible and unmatched experience. The icefield tour with the wak on the glacier was snowy and foggy, which was really cool. But, due to that weather, we postponed (no additional charge) our trip to Skywalk to another day. The staff was most helpful with that change.Hello there Thank you for your 5* review! We are so glad that had a wonderful time with us and got to experience the Skywalk on a better weather day. Thank you for recommending the Glacier and Skywalk elements of the tour - we also agree that are awesome experiences! Enjoy your time in the Canadian Rockies! You get as much time as you want to walk around, read the information and then head back to the main area. It was the last day of the season so the cafe was kind of lacking, but everything inside was clean and enjoyable.Hello Cassie, Thank you so much for your rating and review. - Marc WWeymouth, United Kingdom1,949 contributionsStunning views. Now, this isn't for everyone, but I personally enjoy a good glass floor/viewing platform, my partner, she doesn't! As part of the Icefield tour you are taken here once you are done on the glacier. You don't have to get off of the coach if you don't fancy it. If you get off the coaches leave every 15ish mins to take you back to where you started. Architecturally I loved this. It fits into the valley really well and looks amazing and offers fantastic views of the river below, the valley, waterfalls, and some of the glaciers. However, this doesn't extend out over a glacier, just out over the valley. Even if you don't want to walk out on the glass you can still enjoy the experience as there are plenty of other areas for you to walk and enjoy the views.Hello Marcwez, Thank you so much for your rating and review. We were a bit sad not being able to see the mountains clearly or at all while travelling from Jasper thru Lake Louise to Golden then Banff, but it was fairly clear on the skywalk. Beautiful view that you would not get from the side of the road. It overlooked a canyon with waterfalls. Well worth the stop and we hope to be back one day. July 2021Hello CynthisCordelia, Thank you so much for the rating and review. We are so glad to hear that you had a good time through the Canadian Rockies. - Lydia BPaarl, South Africa1 contributionWorthy expierence to top off Icefields ParkwayWe drove the Icefields Parkway: it is one the 10 most scenic drives of its kind in the world - lots of lakes, majestic mountains and glaciers. The Skywalk was the perfect cherry on the ice cream white mountain tops we saw and experienced. The guide filled in all the information we needed to get a better understanding of the area and to read more of the information boards on the Skywalk. There is no advantage to the glass floor which just looks down to the rocky side of the mountain. The Skywalk allows more people to safely enjoy the view. There was also lots of information boards teaching about the history, animals and geology of the surrounding area, which was great to learn. It was raining when we went, but this didn’t take away from our experience. The shuttle experience was seamless and well managed. We went in Mid-July on the Columbia Icefield and Skywalk tour. As we our tour bus was about to head out we were delayed by at least 10 minutes as there was a group of late comers to our tour.
We enjoyed the Columbia Icefield and the tour to the glacier. The twenty minutes you have on the glacier goes faster than you think!
On our way to the Skywalk, we asked the bus driver how late it is open. He said we could stay as late as we wanted - even until midnight. Upon arrival at the Skywalk, we were told we would have about 45 minutes. From the entrance you have to walk a short distance to get to the attraction. After about 25 or 30 minutes, the staff at the Skywalk began sending everyone back to wait for the bus. We noted we had a couple more quick pictures and would head that way. Within a few minutes he then said there would be another bus coming if we missed that one. Then a moment later came up to us and said actually there were no further buses and if we missed that one, we would have to walk back to the interpretive centre (about 6kms away). At this point my husband decided to go speak to the site manager to find out what was going on.
At first the manager was quite defensive. Once she listened to my husband's concerns, she admitted that she was the one who was providing the confusing information about the buses to the staff person. She was able to call another bus for us to return to the centre. While we were waiting for the bus, we asked her when the attraction actually closes. She admitted that they provide buses depending on how many people are remaining at the Skywalk. We expressed our concerns that we had been told we could stay as long as we wanted and then for 45 minutes and then for only 30 minutes. We noted that it is frustrating that the website recommends you spend one hour at the Skywalk, but then does not ensure the final tour of the day has a full hour there. We also mentioned that our tour had departed late, which left us getting to the Skywalk later than planned as well.
Once we returned home, I emailed the company as well as completed their survey regarding our experience. It has been two weeks since I reached out to the company and I have not heard back from them. I have been on other tours provided by this company and was very disappointed in our experience at the Skywalk.

Hello Jttz318,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. If you would like to discuss this further you can send me an email at evaneverdingen@pursuitcollection.com; I’m sorry that no one responded to your previous attempts to reach out and I will follow up to see what happened there.
Although the driver might have given some misinformation (which has been dealt with accordingly), I had clarified with you before walking to the glass that our last bus leaves at 7:30pm. We also have to make a last call 15 minutes before the bus is supposed to leave to ensure everyone is aware that it’s time to start thinking about walking back up. Our bus timing is complicated as it is situational based on the amount of people left on the Skywalk and the timing. If there are 10 people left on the Skywalk at 7:15, we will only keep one bus working to do one last pick up for 7:30 which was the case. I am sorry if that was confusing. We are working with our team to make sure the information is correct on the website and that we have better communication with the center if tours are late and limited on time.
Take care and enjoy the rest of your summer.
Sincerely,
Emma van Everdingen

The skywalk is a gimmick. All you're really paying for is to stand on glass.
The views are great but no different than many of the free views you see on the Icefields Parkway.
FYI: You can't park at the skywalk, you need to park at the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre, from here you can buy your tickets, and then they'll take you on a bus to the skywalk.
The best part of the tour was the bus driver, he was funny and I would prefer to see my full ticket expense go to him than this skywalk bulljive.
You don't need to spend more than 20 minutes on the actual skywalk.
I did this tour because of FOMO (fear of missing out). But I didn't miss out on anything. At $40 an adult ticket, this is steep with not much ROI.
You can also park by the Athabasca Glacier and hike to the base for free. This is a much better experience than the skywalk with better views.
If you don't travel much or don't like hiking for views, this might be amazing for you. Other than that, it's a total ripoff. #shame

Hi VincentCroos,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. It's great to hear that you thought the bus driver was funny and was a highlight of your time here. I am sorry to hear that you though the skywalk was a gimmick as there is lots more involved than just standing on a glass bridge. I hope you had the opportunity to listen in on our free audio tours or read our interpretive displays, as the Skywalk can be a great opportunity for learning more about the beautiful area around this attraction. Overall, you are paying for the full experience, not just for another aspect of a mountainous view. As for parking, it mentions on our website and on the tickets if bought in advance that parking is at the Discovery Center and our shuttle service is free of charge. I am glad that you got to experience even more of this area by taking one of the many incredible hikes around us. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels out on the Icefields Parkway.

We really enjoyed our tour of the skywalk. Ava was a great guide and told us lots of interesting information about the area and the icefield. Highly recommend going with a tour guide instead of walking through on your own or taking an audio guide - it really adds to the experience and you'll spend more time there. If you're afraid of heights, prep yourself! It's a bit unnerving to walk on glass high in the air.
Plan 1-2 hours for the whole thing as waiting for the bus and riding it up and back from the Icefield centre will take about a half hour altogether.

We had booked this as part of a package that included the glacier explorer (which was cancelled). We kept this booking. By the time you arrive for pre boarding, board the bus, go to the site, do the walk and come back it's a few hours and it's very crowded. We got better photos from actually stopping on the parkway. If we had to.do.it.over again, likely would have skipped this in order to have more time to drive the parkway.

Hello Mac_Neill_11,
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm glad you thought it was a cool experience, but i'm sorry to hear that you thought it to not be worth the time. It is an experience that takes time, so it's best spent when not rushing along the parkway, as we aim to give our guests more than just a photo op. We hope that you had the opportunity to listen to our self guided audio tour that can really enhance the time spent and compliments the interpretive displays that we hope you had the chance to look at as well.
I wish you the best in your travels and we hope to see you again in the future.

This was our first visit to Banff. It was on our bucket list . Back and forth from the skywalk was time consuming even though it was swift and comfortable. A devise was handed out which would brief you about the place. The information was great . They view was thrilling from the skywalk . It was safe on the skywalk. . If you are not very afraid of heights , hopefully it will be on your to-do list .
The snow capped mountains and the glaciers near by seem to be like a painting .
Maybe next time if I come by to Jasper and Banff I would probably skip it .

What a view and the staff were great! Everyone we spoke to along our walk was so kind and knowledgeable. A staff member (Maddie) from the same city as us actually let my son tell her all about bears and his favourite animals in the area. She was patient, clearly knowledgeable, and even spoke to us in french when we told her we were teaching our son. Morgan was so kind as well, offering to take our photo without us asking. I would recommend to anyone!!

We were on a bus tour here so we did not experience many of the hassles that others have complained about. There ARE a lot of buses involved in visiting the ice fields up close. One from the Center takes you across the street down to where you can walk on the Athabasca Glacier. Then you get on the Ice Explorer vehicle that takes you out on the ice. Walking on the glacier is somewhat hazardous. It is quite slick in places and most people did not stay out very long on the ice. Interesting fact - the melt from the glacier flows into 3 oceans - some to the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Arctic.
After this we got back on the Ice Explorer then on to a regular bus which took us to the Sky Walk. A glass walkway goes out to a glass platform arching out over the scenery. Beautiful views. So many glaciers out here in Banff. The walkway out and back had several informational signs. While I enjoyed the Sky Walk very much, it is not for everyone. Spouse quickly walked out and back very quickly.

Overall this was a very exciting activity. The skywalk itself is jarring at the start and feels unnatural but as you walk you get somewhat more at ease. There is alot of information on how it was was built which I would recommend reading if you are afraid of heights as it calmed me down having all of the information prior to stepping over the ledge. Awesome views!! Take your time to really look down. We were lucky enough to watch a mountain goat and it’s fluffy baby walk along the wall, adorable. Our shuttle driver was hilarious and honestly made the trip. However it is outrageously overpriced for what it is. Shame on Pursuit for taking advantage of tourists. If your an Albertan resident you get a slight discount which helps but I just honestly didn’t think it was worth the cost. Walk along the highway edge and it’s basically the same thing.

Great experience overall!!! Definitely recommend for all ages. My only ask if visitors would be to be respectful of others. There were a lot of people all over the walkway taking photos but not paying any attention at all to the folks trying to walk out on platform. Great staff, very well organized transportation. Awesome views!

If you have a fear of heights, this is one way to overcome it even if briefly. Once you get your two feet feet finally placed on the glass floor ( you can hold the rail if needed), you will in no time do this walk several times. It is a great experience to feel like you are floating over the canyon.

This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
We are booked at 1515 for the ice field. We also have tickets for the skywalk- not sure whether to do it before or after the glacier. If we do it before, what time would we need to arrive? Thanks

I think half an hour at the Skywalk is more than enough time there.

We are driving the Icefields Parkway on Sunday, June 11 from Banff to Jasper. We want to make some stops along the way, so we don't know exactly when we will reach the Columbia Icefield . Is there a reservation with a flexible time? if noy, what time do you recommend. Thanks!

Hi Jon,
We recommend scheduling a specific time for your tour to ensure that you can reserve seats at a preferable time (we also encourage you to arrive 30 mins prior to departure time). If you do not book a specific time it is possible you would see some wait time before we can get you on a tour. That being said, we can schedule your tour at our ticket desk when you arrive. In terms of what time we recommend, the skywalk is beautiful all day long, however, it tends to be busiest mid-day.
I hope this helps! We look forward to seeing you.

Hi, has anything changed regarding pet policies since the last question? Are there any doggie daycare facilities available while owners go on the Skywalk? Thanks

Can the general public go to the skywalk without having to buy tickets? If your not going on the Icefield tour, can you just park and walk to still use it?

Is this a worthwhile excursion whilst in Jasper? Or would anybody recommend another/better way of seeing the glaciers?

If you go to the Columbia Icefields Discovery Center, they have large snow coaches that will take you directly out onto the Athabasca Glacier; the ticket also includes the Columbia Skywalk which is a short distance away. Once you buy your ticket, it has an assigned time on it. You take a bus to the snow coach, take the snow coach out onto the glacier where you can walk around and take photographs for about half an hour, then you get back on the bus and go to the Skywalk where you can stay as long as you'd like and then board one of the busses back. The Skywalk just has a nice view, doesn't really involve the Athabasca glacier. It's about ten minutes away. The Discovery Center is on the Icefields Parkway so you pass it going from Banff to Jasper. The tours are seasonal.

How can I get to the skywalk from my hotel in Jasper?
Written October 15, 2019
Hello,
The Skywalk is located on the Icefelds Parkway (Hwy 93). There is no parking at the Skywalk. All tours go out from the Discovery Center, which s located 6km up the road.
Our last day of operations for the 2019 season is on Sunday, October 20th.
During the season, guests can drive themselves from Jasper to the Discovery Center to catch a shuttle to the Skywalk or book a sightseeing tour that will pick you up from Jasper.

I can see on the website that the Skywalk is open until October 20 but no dates after that. Is it closed from October 20 til the end of the year?
Written October 11, 2019
Yes, the Skywalk closes for the season after that date.

What direction does the Jasper Skywalk face? Is it good to go to see a sunset? Thank you!
Written September 2, 2019
Hi there! The Skywalk faces south west and we can see the sun setting over the mountains some times. However, we are not always open during sunset as during this time of the year our hours are 10:15AM - 6:00PM. If you are in the area and unable to view the sunset from the Skywalk, I highly recommend the Tangle Falls hike to view the sunset.

Visiting next week with my 88-year-old father. Is there a long walk from the parking to the Skywalk?
Written June 5, 2019
Hello.
The Parking for the Skywalk is actually 6km south of the attraction at the Discovery Centre. From there, we take you on a shuttle bus to the attraction which has a boardwalk which is 800m in length. We do however offer wheelchairs (subject to availability) to our guests free of charge.
Hope this helps!
