Me and a friend booked the 6 day intro to mountaineering course through Alpine Air Adventures, which was an ample amount of time to really pick up key mountaineering skills and develop a lifelong friendship with our guide Christian Schlumpf.

The course was a nice balance between alpine/ice climbing and rock climbing skills and was tailored specifically to our own desires as well as the weather; every day Christian as well as the rest of the Alpine Air Adventures team ensured that we were doing something unique and really getting a taste for the rockies. From dawning our crampons up to the Mount Anthabasca summit to multi-pitch rock climbing up Castle Mountain the course was everything I imagined at a very economical price. I highly recommend.

We did a private guided hike in Lake O’Hara and I highly recommend the experience if you are considering it! Our guides name was Peter and he was excellent. He made us feel safe and also informed us of how to handle every element during our hike - animals, nature, and weather. If you are lucky enough to get Peter, you will be in great hands!

Jeff provided the logistics for a great day on the crags with Christian.

Though we had some experience in the gym, we had never been outside. As such, Christian tailored the experience to meet our needs. He more than met our expectations by giving us the introduction to outside climbing that we were looking for.

We highly recommend Alpine Air Adventures for guided sport climbing in Banff.

Thank you Christian and Jeff!

Guided ski touring with AAA is unreal. I keep coming back for more and only get more addicted! The knowledge of conditions and routes is deep enough that you can have excellent days even when most people choose to stay in. I'll be back!

The guiding was poor to the point of being unsafe. The hike the guide chose was not any of the ones advertised and was significantly longer and steeper. We explained that we had a recent injury and the guide completely disregarded it. We happily would have skipped the hike and hung out at the lake if the guide had been realistic about the hike, but he provided an inaccurate description of the trail and we ended up going on a hike that exacerbated the injury. The guide also provided no guide services other than walking at the head of the trail. He didn’t describe the terrain, flora, wildlife, etc. The destinations, of course, are beautiful, but that has nothing to do with the company. Our experience was that this guide company was irresponsible and the trip was not as advertised.

Hi Sarat938, I believe you have the wrong company. We do not offer hikes in the winter, we offer Ice climbing, Ski and snowboard touring and Avalanche Skills training. Please be careful how you post, and safe travels. Jeff Bullock

We hiked Lake O’Hara with Andrew. He did an amazing job taking us to places we wouldn’t have went. This was the first time we went on a guided hike and would definitely do it again. We learned things about the area, and hiking. This was my parents first time in the Canadian Rockies, and the whole group had a great time! Definitely recommend this experience and Andrew as a guide!

Christian took me and my three kids (ages 11, 12, 14) climbing for the day. We all had an amazing time! He provided excellent instruction, particularly with respect to safety and kept the kids busy helping and involved throughout the day. He ensured everyone had as much time to climb as possible and gave us the skills and confidence we needed to thoroughly enjoy experience. He was patient and encouraging and clearly loves what he does. He was great with the kids and they loved hearing all about avalanche control in the mountains! Would highly recommend! Thanks for an amazing day!

We did the Introduction to Rock Climbing on July 2 and could not have been happier. Our guide was Jacob and he really went above and beyond to give us a great climbing day. He was very informative and taught us a lot. We got lots of climbs in. He really had a great way of pushing you, but in a kind and safe way. The final climb I did for the day he really gave me the mental push I needed part was up and it felt so amazing when I finished it. I was there with my teenage nephew who did many more climbs than I did and I loved watching him learn from Jacob. We both really trusted him. I want to emphasize the safety aspect of the day and how much was done at all times to ensure the safety of our group. We both very much loved the day and would definitely do it again.

We were on a trip guided by Maarten. He was an excellent guide who not only taught us ice climbing, he also shared all kinds of mountaineering knowledge with us and was happy to answer all of our questions. He provided a high adventure experience while never compromising safety. A true pro and really nice guy. The overall operation was extremely professional and the condition and quality of the climbing gear was top notch!

My boyfriend had told me his dream was to climb the face of Mount Yamnuska. Technically it was well above our ability. While we might be able to handle the actual climbing, route finding and placing trad gear was another thing.

I contacted Jeff in May to ask if it was possible (thinking it would be an incredible birthday gift). I gave Jeff a rundown of our climbing abilities and objectives. He let me know it would definitely be doable, and gave me three routes to research and decide between.

A week before our adventure (now September) Jeff contacted us to confirm the details. He also mentioned that the weather wasn't looking great, and gave three extra route options further west out of the weather window. The day before Jeff got in touch again to confirm the route we would do (the weather had shifted - we could do Yam). I appreciated that even if Yamnuska hadn't worked out, Jeff had thought of a few great alternatives.

We met up with our guide Christian early on Saturday morning. He reviewed our gear in the parking lot, and helped us make final decisions about what to bring. Christian was a fantastic guide. Calm and patient, we always felt safe. My boyfriend and I are both interested in learning more about climbing, so Christian would take the time to explain certain knots, belay techniques and trad gear. Plus, Christian was fun!

We had an incredible day. The route picked for us (Western Union, 5 pitches, 200m, 5.8) was perfect for our ability level. It pushed me, without being so difficult as to be frustrating. I am so excited to drive past Mount Yamnuska on a regular basis an be able to say I climbed it. We will be booking again with Alpine Air Adventures.
