the peaceful village in Hagiang City where you can walking around to discover local style and culture. The rice field, forest covered village. This is the Tay Village, one kind of ethnic people village. They still kept their origional cuture and habitant. You can come here and stay in the local homestay to have more time to relax and culture experience.

Nam Hong village is located in Thong Nguyen commun, it is a Community Based Tourism of Red Dao people, this village is more beautiful and authentic than this village. There are more activities to do and the landscapes are more beautiful but less touristy. We visited both Nam Hong and Thon Tha villages but we prefer Nam Hong village to Thon Tha village

Beautiful and sweet little village with some cut homestays. Too bad we couldn't find anything quick to eat there with a beautiful view on the rice fields.
The owners told us we have to tell them a bit earlier so they can be ready and buy what is needed. :)

I stayed at Mr Thien's homestay with his family and I had the best 2 weeks exploring the village and taking part in traditional activities.

The village itself is located near the Ha Giang Bus stop making it very easy to get to. Likewise, it is situated near a town as well where you can find everything you need. Nonetheless, it is likely that Mr Thien will have it in the house as he is equipped with everything! The house is surrounded my nature and it is a beautiful sight to wake up to every morning for 2 weeks. I went late June so I was able to see the transition between the yellow fields of rice to the harvested fields.

Keen to learn about the culture, Mr Thien was happy to teach me, which was also made easier by his excellent English. I was able to harvest rice, go hiking up the many mountains near the village, go fishing, weave the traditional baskets and learn about the different vegetation/crops that were used for cooking and medicine, as well as help cooking!!. I was always up to something or otherwise relaxing on the hammock having a laugh with Mrs Thien. When it got really hot, there's a waterfall nearly 30 minutes away where you can go swimming in.

I couldn't recommend this place any more. The family and village are all so hospitable and open to any guests. They also offer motorbike tours with a local English speaking tour guide to Dong Van which is also worth going to. If you want to experience hands on the day to day village life, this is the place to be!!

The locals were super nice and refused to accept my money after having me over for lunch. It was so peaceful and perfect.

We had a day to spend in Ha Giang. This was close and was surprisingly beautiful. If you are in the area I highly recommend strolling around this village.

A chance to experience day-to-day village life.'we stayed three nights. Mrs Dung prepared delicious meals and took us for a day out to visit her daughter's village where we had lunch! Peanut brittle was a hi-light! Mrs Dung's English is limited so we had to become creative with our communication skills.

If you care at all about sustainable tourism and helping indigenous people preserve their lifestyle, this is a great place to spend your money. In return, you will get to live in a 300-year-old village, in a stilt house with beautiful thatch roof, in a totally picturesque village, where you can go trekking, swimming (in summer), and participate in village and home life. There are 3 families who host guests, for dinner, overnight and breakfast -- it's very inexpensive -- and I was lucky enough to live in Mrs Dung's house; she is a gracious 61-year-old farmer. She shared her home, extended family, farm animals, vegetable garden and smiles with me, and while her English is limited, she's an expert at using google translate on her smart phone. I must say, the contrast between smart phones and a kitchen-cooking fire on the concrete floor was wild; comforts are basic, although there is hot water and electricity, and home-made rice wine plus copious and delicious home-cooked meals. It made me happy to be here, and to help support hard-working people so that they can remain on their farms, in their village, as the city of Ha Giang grows up around them. I look forward to returning one day. (My stay was organized by Yesd Tours, highly recommended for responsible tourism ideas and adventures.)

Thon Tha Village is very beautiful and currently undeveloped which is nice to see. We took an hour to walk around between the old homes, fish ponds and rice fields before having lunch at the only guest house that we could see. We also made the 30 walk up to the waterfalls behind the village, these we not so impressive.
