About
Unique church featuring the world largest collection of Sir Laurence Whistler's engraved glass windows. A must see for all art lovers. The first church was built in 1190 and rebuilt in 1410 and 1776. A war time bombing on 8 October 1940 extensively damaged the church and the refurbishment resulted in the 13 uniquely artistic engraved glass windows by Sir Laurence Whistler that we have today. Sir Laurence Whistler is general regarded as the man who revived glass engraving in the 20th century and he spent nearly 40 years of his life working on the church. The first windows being installed in 1955 and the last window, which was engraved in 1993, and only installed in 2013. (Note: The 13th window can only be seen from outside the church. Follow the gravel path. Lawrence of Arabia (T E Lawrence) is also buried in the New Cemetery across the road. You can also explore the village of Moreton with a free entry walled garden, two tearooms, the River Frome and plenty of countryside walks.

The stunning church windows engraved by Rex Whistler make this church unique. The detail and skill to produce effects of light and shade on all the windows of the church , inclufing one that can only be viewed from outside , make this church woth a diversion on any itinerary.
Visit the grave of T.E Lawrence , (Lawrence of Arabia) in the nearby graveyard.

A wonderful building with the most beautiful windows, engraved by Sir Laurence Whistler. You could spend a long time here, whether it is taking in the technical craftsmanship and admiring every little detail of each window, or taking in the stories behind each window. It is well worth getting the guide to the windows because they are so much more than just stunning pictures. My favourite is probably the memorial to the airman shot down in WWII, but there is so much in all of them. We live nearby and always take our visitors to admire it all - we love going back again and again. Do not miss this if you ever get the opportunity to visit.

You must have been luck and visited before the lockdown. As per HMG instructions the church is closed during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Came in search of Lawrence of Arabia's grave and came across the nearby church where his funeral service took place. We knew nothing about it's history and were struck by it's light airy interior lit by clear windows covered in delicate engravings instead of the expected stained glass. We then discovered it had been badly damaged by a bomb during the war, as the guide delicately puts it ' presumably ' German. It's a lovely church with a quiet peaceful ambiance. Well worth seeking out. Tastefully and boldly restored , matching the old and new.

During a visit to Moreton we walked to the church which is signposted.
There is a gate with steps to the church and there is a ramp which was handy for disabled visitors using mobility aids.
The church is beautiful and has been restored following serious damage in World War 2.
This is the only church I have ever come across with etched windows as opposed to stain glass windows.
Very interesting and inspiring place to visit with the grave of T E Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) in the graveyard.
Really enjoyed our visit and would return in a heartbeat.

Visited after having it on my ‘to do’ list for a couple of years and so pleased I finally did.
Set back off the nearby road and walkable within a few minutes from parking.
Lovely smaller church with the most beautiful windows and such a light airy feeling. Felt so peaceful and welcoming.
If you are in the area definitely worth a visit.

The only real reason to visit this church is if your interested in T E Lawrence, better known as Lawrence Of Arabia. It was here that his funeral was held after which he was buried in a small cemetery over the road from the church, there is a grand entrance to this particular cemetery. So don't bother searching the graves next to the church. The grave is very well maintained and is a very quiet and peaceful place. Worth a visit while in the area along with the cottage he lived in at Clouds Hill when he died which is close by too. One of the few places to visit in Dorset that doesn't cost you anything!

A very unusual church, all the windows are of clear glass and all are engraved in beautiful artwork, the church is so light and airy, very unusual for a church of this age. This is also a must because in the graveyard a short distance from the church is the tomb of Lawrence of Arabia who was killed in a motorbike accident at Bovington Camp which is nearby.........

It's a small church up what appears to be a road you can't access but ignore the sign and walk up.
The glass windows are the amazing feature being etched glass such that it's a place you ought to return to in different seasons and times so that you can appreciate the effect of the light better.

Such a beautiful place to visit. Wonderful 'etched' glass windows, so, so pretty. If you are nearby you should visit and wander around, and hopefully put a few bob in the collection for the privilege of seeing such a magical place of worship, whether you are religious or not. The money goes to the upkeep of the church and grounds. The windows are amazing and the history behind them fascinating. Would love to return at night and see the church lit by candle-light.

I grew up a mile from this church.Swimming and fishing in the river Frome.I am 51 now and go back often just to sit in the church and admire the windows.Don't swim in the river much thesedays but it's still magical and if you can visit when it's not too busy, the silence is deafening and the windows take your breath away.p.s pop into my mums for a tea.all welcome.
