About
The New Cemetery was opened on 3rd Dec 1930 and on 21st May 1935 Lawrence of Arabia (T E Lawrence) was buried here. His grave can be found at the end of the brick path. In 1956 the present entrance porch was erected. This had previously been the entrance to the Frampton House Kitchen Garden but had been damaged during the war. Each side of the entrance are two tablets which came from the obelisk on Fir Hill and are a memorial to James Frampton (who rebuild the church in 1776) after he died in 1784. This porch is Listed as a Grade II monument. Across the road is the unique Saint Nicholas Church featuring the world largest collection of Sir Laurence Whistler's engraved glass windows. A must see for all art lovers and is a beautifully peaceful place.

This is the New Cemetery, opened in December 1930. The entrance porch is a Grade ll listed monument. An enclosed and intimate little cemetery.
From the entrance follow the brick path to the end. To the right of a large wooden cross is the headstone of: T. E. Lawrence perhaps better known as: “Lawrence of Arabia”. He was interned here in May 1935, (having been killed in a motorcycle accident).
Unless specifically interested in visiting the aforementioned “famous” grave, this cemetery is just that - a small cemetery. However couple it with the other attractions Moreton has to offer (church, walled garden, cafe, River Frome with footbridge thereover and safe paddling in the water), then it’s worth paying a visit whilst meandering through the village.
Wheelchair/pushchair friendly. As a mark of respect dogs should be kept on a lead.

In a well kept cemetery in the beautiful Dorset village of Moreton is the grave of T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia). Such a well known historical figure has his final resting place here in this small cemetery. There is an impressive arched entry gate and a brick pathway to the grave at the far end. Interesting point to note, Lawrence had changed his name by deed poll to T.E. Shaw but this does not appear on his headstone. An information board near the village church provides historical details of Lawrence’s life and times. Well worth a visit.

Like Churchill it's fitting that a man who strode across the pages of history should find his final resting place in a quiet corner of a remote English Church yard.

Worth spending a few moments here, at the graveside of Lawrence of Arabia / T E Lawrence. Lovely area, with the church just up the road, a small garden and tea shop. A nice village.

A simple little graveyard containing the remains of a 1st World War hero, T. E. Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia. There is a board outside the church that provideds a biography of Lawrence and the graveyard a little further down the lane contains his simple but well maintained grave.

Having lived in Dorset for 35 years I've never visited TE Lawrence's grave and thought it high time I visited after completing a 6-mile circular walk starting from the little village of Moreton and the church of St Nicholas.
All the graves in this tiny graveyard are well tended, and TE Lawrence's resting place had fresh roses and other small sprays of flowers as his birthday had been three days earlier.
A lovely spot in the Dorset countryside.

Over many years I have made visits to the grave of T E Lawerence, whose oil painting, dressed in full Arab dress, in the Hall at Jesus College, Oxford, had first introduced me to this fascinating legendary hero. After years of adventures he has been laid to rest in a tranquil cemetery in Dorset.

Went to see T E Laurence's grave in this lovely clean and quiet cemetery. Heard a lot about Lawrence of Arabia but never thought I'd finish up this close to the grave of T E Laurence

We were told on one of our visits to Moreton cemetary, that flowers on the T.E. Lawrence grave were put there on an anniversary by an unknown person. Is this true please, or just a bit of folk law ?
Written May 13, 2018
It is true and not folk lore. A mystery person sent white roses every year. This started before 1980 and discontinued about 2000. When they were being sent they would decrease by one rose each year and if the pattern had continued it would have ended in 2021. It was widely thought that the flowers came from an American lady sent via a local florist.
