So beautiful but be very careful, choice your time before going because access is narrow by car.Must done at low season only.
It's one day perfect trip for picnic and easy walk around lake to the cirque d'Estaube.

Breathtaking views

The hotel owner recommended this hike. It was easy and absolutely gorgeous. Took us about 1.5 hours return.

Less crowded than its sisters
Aug 2017
And there are no parking or any other fee. This smalle r and less crowded valley walk are very quiet and peaceful and follow the green pastures between the mountains until the cirque is revealed. we never very lucky to see 30 vultures fighting to devour a dead cow. + a bunch of the cosy rodents living here. Parking is quite limited, so come early. You will se some staying overnight at the lake.

Avoid it if it's busy !!
Jul 2017 • Couples
Having "done" the amazing Cirque de Gavarnie, we thought we'd try the Lac de Gloriette on the Estaube road. OK, it was our fault going on a Saturday immediately after a national holiday. It would be lovely if it was a quiet day ............ BUT, to get there there is a long narrow winding road with passing places. No problem, EXCEPT that if the (very small) car park at the top is full, the French park in the passing places ! In this country there would be double yellow lines everywhere.

Or you could go by motor-bike. We'll go back when it's quieter. A beautiful part of France.

Walk from Gedres
Jul 2017 • Couples
Cirque d’Estaube
First of all, we had no car and had to do it by foot from Gedres. We reached Gedres from Lourdes by public transport which starts from mid June. For two euros you can take this bus from Tarbes to Gavarnie. We took it from Lourdes train station. The timetable is easily found online. We did this in mid June and we were lucky that there was no more snow but you might come across snow on the way or in the cirque in other seasons.
If you have a car, the drive from Gedres to the car park at the lac des gloriettes is about fifteen minutes. You leave the car there, cross the dam by foot and do a circular walk into the cirque and back to the car park. It takes two to three hours depending on how far you venture into the cirque.
We started from Gedres village centre. You walk pass the hotel Breche de Roland (on your left) and approximately 200 m pass this hotel you come across a first path on the left which is signposted to the mills walk, ignore it and take the next path on the left which is signposted to lac des gloriettes. The path climbs up over the village, leaving all the windy roads and entering a foresty area. The path gradually climbs up for 600 to 700 m in total before reaching a beautiful plateau with lovely meadows. It took us nearly 3h to go to the lake so it is approximately 2h30 of continuous climb. You come across a few ruined houses along this gentle plateau and another 30 to 45 minutes take you to the lake.
If you want to get down to the lovely hamlet of Heas, which has a great accommodation (Auberge de la Munia) there is a path that takes you down near the car park. It takes about 10 minutes by car. Our plan was to walk this path down to Heas however, we got caught up in a heavy thunder storm and thankfully a kind family rescued us even though we were soaked to the bone.
It is a very pleasant walk and we would recommend starting it from Gedres. Also we would recommend staying in the Auberge de la Munia. Nothing like a home made meal and some good wine after a long walk.

emeraud water

Quite a big number of curves to drive to reach the lake high up in the mountains, but totally worth it because of the contrasts between emeraud water, grey rocks, green pastures....

Level walk around reservoir
Sep 2013 • Couples
Not so busy as the other cirques. There is a short relatively level walk around a reservoir (itself quite interesting and pretty) and the walk which continues up to the cirque is also fairly level. We were on our own for much of the time and it was lovely and peaceful. You can park at the reservoir and the views all around are just lovely.
