Bill's lifetime of collecting has resulted in an amazing retrospective of indigenous masks and ceremonial use. With more than 600 examples, it is quite impressive. His personal stories make it even more accessible. Be sure to watch the video of the mask ceremonies! It's a must see on any trip to San Miguel de Allende.

If you appreciate history, indigenous Mexican culture, and art, don't miss this museum. Bill is incredibly knowledgable about the masks he has collected, and the villages he visited. We learned a lot!

Free entry. We did not take a tour, just walked around to see the amazing masks. Took lots of photos! It's right by the history museum/fort so combine these into one visit. There's also an art museum (all paintings are by one artist) and a naval museum. I know the mask and art museums were free to visit and wonderfully air conditioned. Great stop-off in the heat!

The owner of this remarkable collection invites you into his home to share his finds with you and explain the meaning behind the masks. The collection is organized and labeled according to the different types of celebrations for which the masks are used. There are also videos of the masks being worn in ceremonial dances. The owner stays with the group answering any questions.

This place is hard to find and you need reservation to see it. Good luck! There are lots of other things to see and do in SMA

You learn a lot in this tour from the man who has collected curated the masks himself, but it’s not delivered in a dry, boring manner. You’ll be glad you went!

This was such a cool find! This is a private collection housed in a B&B. The owner, Bill, allows visitors to view the collection by appointment, so call ahead to reserve a time. He gives a bit of background about the role of masks in indigenous Mexican culture and about his history as a collector, and then people can wander through the collection and spend as much time there as they wish. Everything is displayed beautifully with informative placards. I highly recommend spending a few hours here!

Great morning with Bill who is passionate about what he does and explains really well (with a great sense of humour) about the history of the masks and his travels to buy them.

We spent a very informative morning at this museum. He operates this as a not for profit, as a labour of love. He has been researching indigenous Mexican ceremonial masks for 30 years and his collection and stories were amazing. Well worth the effort to find the place - we are still talking about it!

This was one of the most spectacular tours of our trip. Set in a beautiful bed and breakfast with such a knowledgeable and fun guide, owner and collector of over 600 masks. Very interesting and intriguing to see all the different and unique masks from all over Mexico. You will not be disappointed. Be sure to call and book ahead as you cannot just walk in for the tour. We purchased the book to bring home and continue to read and learn more about the people who wore these masks, their dances and the communities they live in.
Don't pass up this extrodinary tour!
