If nothing else go in to see the Morales painting. There are other pieces in this building and they are usually interesting. It is right on Independencia, right off the Zocalo.

Small exhibit but well worth it. Primarily the works of Filemon Santiago, but some other interesting artists - loved the Jazz painting!!

⭐️⭐️ Two stars at best. It was a lovely building, yet the amount of artwork on display was minimal. There is one exhibition that highlighted an artist in particular (temporary exhibit). The top floor had one room and possibly 10-12 paintings. $20MXN per person

There is a good variety in this little museum, housed in a beautiful and well-kept building with many arches. Most of the paintings are on the depressing side. There is one particularly gorgeous painting that bucks this trend. And speaking of a buck, that's essentially...More

A painter named Filemon Santiago was on exhibit and the cost was free. Santiago's work was almost appealing as Diego Rivera is too me, so I was pleasantly surprised by our visit. The museum is local to the Zocolo center and can be reached by...More

This museum is housed in a colonial building that dates back to around 1700. Although the rooms have been heavily modified in their transition into galleries you get a strong sense of the building's heritage. Check out the welded iron railings upstairs in particular. The...More

If you like contemporary or modern painting this exhibition space is a good choice. There is a large permanent collection of work by well know Oaxacan painters and while we were there they also has an exhibition of women painters of Oaxaca. Both shows were...More

After visiting the Rufino Tamayo collection at the museum named for him, we got curious about him. Asked our hotel where to go to see his work, and were given the names of two museums. This one was closer so we went in and, voila!,...More

In a restored colonial building of great elegance, this museum's changing exhibitions depend for value on the individual curator. At the moment (Feb. 2017) there is a fabulous show of the graphic works of Rufino Tamayo. On my visit, it was empty except for a...More
