First of all it was just across the street from the cruise terminal. No fee at this time since they're renovating before. Although they allowed you in to walk around the inside grounds, the fort was officially closed. You could peek in through some of th the cavern like rose within their arched ceilings. You can see the remodeled work being done to all of the large rooms. Again there was no fee at this time otherwise it would have been about $3 if the park was open.

Unfortunately on my visit the museum was closed. However the entrance fee is relatively cheap and was more than worth it for the fantastic views.
The fort itself is beautiful and it was nice to just look around it and this will be high on my list next time I’m in Acapulco to visit the museum. The staff here were friendly and attentive.

Unfortunately the museum is closed currently due to COVID however you can walk around and on top of the fort at this time. This does afford views of the bay and surrounding areas. Two other not so little issues: Despite coming on Sunday - as most museums are free in Mexico - there remains a charge of 70 pesos if you a not Mexican. Also finding the entrance is bit difficult as the main gate located on Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman is locked. You have to walk around and access it from Morelos. There is unfortunately no signage on this locked gate telling you this.

Acapulco owns a very rich history and we were very happy to discover it by visiting that fortress and its museum. About 10 rooms are dedicated to different ages and aspects of what was the most important port in New Spain. We went 3 times as we wanted to read and learn the most possible!

We enjoyed the air conditioned Acapulco Historical Museum, housed on the ground floor of the pentagon shaped El Fuerte de San Diego, built by the Spanish in 1649. You can easily spend 1.5+ hours immersed in the videos and exhibits featuring the history of the conquistadors, early colonialism and the influence from early trade with China and the Philippines in the 1400’ s-1600, before the Spanish arrived. My favorite exhibit was the actual horse drawn coach, shipped from Europe to transport Queen Isabella (and other future Royalty), during their Royal visits to Mexico.
Signs and Exhibit descriptions are in English and Spanish. However, our tour guide, Roberto, from Roberto Alarcon Tours, was essential in providing us with interesting information on the background of exhibits we would otherwise not have obtained. We especially enjoyed learning about the transfer of knowledge between cultures such as Chinese introducing Mexicans to the process of color creation from flowers and minerals thus enabling them to evolve from black/white to multi-color designs on fabrics and pottery and the integration of Chinese silks, herbs and spices into Mexican life. Likewise, Mexico in addition to exporting gold and silver, introduced Asian cultures to Avocados, indigenous spices and herbs and new raw materials for China to weave into previously unknown types of fabrics. We definitely would not have appreciated the exhibits as much without the excellent background explanations from Roberto.

The museum is easily accessible and worth the visit. The exhibition rooms contain signs in English which helps tell the story of Acapulco along with the many interesting artifacts. I learned more about the early sea trading history of this port city than I imagined. The views of Acapulco bay from atop the battlements is also spectacular. This museum is well worth a visit. And at a cost of only about 75 pesos, it is a must see site.

This is really one hidden treasure that most people see from the outside but never really go in to discover want is inside this Fort. From the first viewing room to last fully ac and making your vist very comfortable as the Fort transports you back hundreds of years ago with antique original pieces bought over from Spain the Philippines and China. My lastest visit to the Fort was this past Sunday with a friend and we spent over 2 hours there looking at all the information that the Fort has to offer then we proceed to the very top of the Fort for some excellent view and pictures which I will up load very soon. Just wanted to give every one a tip there is a cover charge to get in to the Fort during the week it is closed on Mondays and Sundays are free of charge to the public. I hope this has been of some help to others.

This fort was built over 200 years ago to protect Acapulco from Pirates. It now serves as Acapulco's History Museum where a wide variety of exhibits and displays can be seen. It highlights the areas culture and history. There is a small entrance charge. The view form the fort is very good.

Easy walk from cruise doc, nice presentation. Costs 3.50 or 60 pesos a person. Worth it! Roof level has great views.

1. Is the Fort/Museum wheel chair accessible from the foot bridge which crosses the Seaside Road?
2. Does the footbridge have an elevator from street level to bridge level on pier side of street?
3. Is there a wheel chair RAMP on the Fort/Museum side of the bridge to the Fort/Museum?

As far as I remember, yes. Sometimes, when you don't have a handicap, it is sad to say, you don't notice. Most of the area is cobblestone and uneven. I remember some of the rooms had ramps for the displays. The parking lot was loose stones and uneven. The views are great from outside the building.
