We use to like Playas de Tijuana/beaches back in the 70-80's, not no more. It's too Ghetto, lots of deported gang members everywhere; and overly-priced restaurants. Get it? Lots of car break-ins and you have to pay parking anywhere you go there for some security, but not always protected. The highway there is in bad condition with much traffic. Stay away and continue to other places. Watch out for potholes.

What a fun place to check out. The border wall, especially where it ended in the ocean, was fascinating to me. We walked along the boardwalk above the beach and the views are stunning. We didn't walk the entire town but we did stop for some pistachio ice cream and chocolate dipped bananas. Musicians were on the sidewalk playing for customers which lent to a festive atmosphere. Wonderful destination for great pictures and a fun adventure. I'm sure there are some really amazing places to get a bite to eat. I already want to return to explore.

We only went to see the “wall” and how it gets in the ocean.
It is quite impressive.
Did not eat there nor spend a lot of time.

So unfortunate, the beach is dirty and the buildings mostly empty and falling apart. When you walk the boardwalk you can smell the sewage that goes into the ocean. You could tell that it was once a beautiful boardwalk and beach but no more.

Approached the beach walkway on a weekday with the family. While going down the stairs that lead to the beach, there was garbage all over the place and the beginning of sewer smell began to emerge... as soon as we reached the “malecon”, the smell was unbearable.
Such a shame as they really build a place worth for a good morning run or a stroll with the family, but this just felt completely anti hygienic. So sad.

beautiful beach, great surf, boardwalk with approx 75 heart shaped art pieces...street filled with inexpensive restaurants and bars...friendly people.....then comes the wall and sound of helicopters....someone said, "well, that's the sound of freedom" what freedom?? all I saw were normal families swimming, flying kites, having ice cream etc. was certainly a more pleasant environment than US side

A beautiful beach, some great views of the Coronado islands in the distance. There is a good path to walk on right next to the beach, and you can find some good restaurants with some amazing fish tacos. The crazy thing is seeing the border wall go right through the southern border and disrupt the entire coastline. Its interesting and sad to be down at the beach and see the impacts of the wall, the whole time we were at the beach we could hear the sound of border control helicopters flying over. A beautiful but sad place

This the strand of beach where surfers congregate and catch some waves. The wooden boardwalk provided a nice path to walk or jog in the nice clean ocean breeze. There are many places to eat and drink all along the stretch of the boardwalk. It attracts out of towners as well as the local crowd. Very nice place to get away from the main city and s nice place to spend a weekend by renting the plethora of Airbnb rentals dotting the whole area. Definitely recommend. I try to visit often to get away and clear my head.

This very modern people friendly, Beach Front city! what! yes beach front city, anywhere you live you have access to our gorgeous Pacific Ocean, The board walk is always active with live music, dancing, clowns, artesanal beer, local and popular beers, festivals, even canine events, etc. TONS of restaurants where ALL the staffing every single single restaurant will treat you with the respect and acknowledgment that you deserve, they go above and beyond to be the best server you have ever had(leave at least a 16% tip of your total bill) the sandy black and gold beaches are mesmerizing yes the water can be really really cold 97% of the time then there is the beautiful like a dream 3%. I love this city. yes like anywhere you go, be cautious of your surroundings (common knowledge) , make good choices have fun and don't ignore the laws.

Is it safe to cross the border and travel there via motorcycle?

Yes. Go in the day. The real challenge is securing the Moto correctly and make sure your insurance is good. Watch the road when you exit the highway. They can get rough in playas.

We visited the week before Easter, when many local families with young children were vacationing on the beach. It was "crowded," but in a good way. It was festive and fun, with musicians strolling on the beach and plenty of action in the restaurants and bars along the boardwalk just south of the Mexico/USA border. There were not many American tourists, which we liked.

Making a trip to Tijuana tomorrow morning from San Deigo for a dentist appt. Want to take a look at Playa. Where is a good place to start? Only have a few hours and need to use UBER to get around. If all goes well I will be looking to rent an apt in January. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

our apt take a taxi to the playas, it will cost 120 pesos. Have the driver drop you off near the US MX fence walk down towards the beach it nice, clean and beautiful. As you stroll down the boardwalk you will notice restaurants above. I advise to stroll the boardwalk first then climb up to the street view and WOW you will smell the different aromas of coffee coming from the bistros below. as you walk towards the area where you started there are plenty of dinning cafes, restaurants where you and friends will be able to enjoy yourselves and be safe at the same time. Have a great time.

Not in playas de tijuana but you can drive about 15 min to rosarito beach and you can find rental horses there, even camels.
