About
This stunning cove is a favorite among locals who come to relax amongst the white sand dunes. The calm, crystal-clear waters are shallow and perfect for beginner swimmers and families. Hike up the neighboring mountain to truly soak in the beauty of Balandra Beach. As part of a protected area, there are restrictions on the number of daily visitors permitted and limited parking available—walking in from the nearby Tecelote Beach is a viable option. You can also visit as part of a boat tour that takes you to various attractions along the coast, like San Rafaelito where you can spot sea lions. – Tripadvisor

Must see … wake up early
The beach is amazing. I was not looking forward to this trip because I heard of the line and the limit number of people they allowed. We drove from Jose Cabo to balandra, we left around 4:30 am and arrive at 8 am. We had to be in line for less than 5 min and we were allowed to get in. It is one of the most amazing places I ever seen. The water was clear and you can see the fish with not equipment. There are two schedules to get in 8 am and 1 pm.

    Things to know
Amazing! Be sure to be there by 12:30. It’s free to enter the park. The parks opens at 1 and closes at 5. They only let a certain amount of cars in. They have 20 palapas to use for free. First come, first serve. They do have some for rent outside the beach. You will not find any food or drinks inside so bring your own. Worth the trip.

    Beautiful!
Balandra is beautiful!! It’s one of those beaches you have to at least visit once. We love to lounge and drink under the sun so this beach was perfect for us the parents lol. There is no waves in this beach my kids said it felt more like a lake they did few like it was a little boring for them but they still managed and had a good time snorkeling w the fishes. There’s 2 time slots from 8-12 and 1-5 they only allow 400 adults at a time they do not count for the small children. We rented a car a drive from Cabo and went in the afternoon and got there at 12:30 and there was already a long line of cars we were probably one of the last cars they let in. I recommend getting there an hour before, take your own food and drinks as there is no vendors inside. Before getting inside the parking lot while in line there’s vendors renting umbrellas and chairs as there is only about 15 palapas inside. If you can I recommend renting an umbrella and chair. If you will be visiting vegetal beaches throughout your trip it may be better to buy an umbrella ($30) for your trip. Would definitely come back again and stay a few days in La Paz before getting to Cabo.

Views were amazing and the water is so clear and warm. Waist deep water throughout the entire area. You are also can rent two person kayak for $25 an hour. I would suggest purchasing an umbrella for the beach before you get there.

Worth all the Hype, DO NOT buy a pass online to visit.
There is no charge to enter, we were scammed by the Cortez Club into buying “parks pass”. The beach is breathtaking. You are able to see the fish and walk along them. The early birds get the “palapas” aka the shaded canopies. We rented a paddle board for $20 bucks an hour. We did see puffer fish in July, be careful where you step. The bathroom situation is odd. Bring coins and expect to use a dry toilet. If you go #2, you sprinkle limestone over it. If you are going from Cabo, go during the week.

Fantastic beach! Must see! BYO Everything
Balandra is a set of 7 beautiful and pristine beaches. It is a MUST see in the area, so try to go at least once while staying in La Paz. We got on the line for the afternoon session (1pm-5pm) at about 11:35am. It was a Saturdays, so probably one of the busiest days. We were maybe the 15th car in line at that point. They let us in around 12:40pm. You want to get there early if you aren’t bringing your own umbrella, so you can snag one of the free palapas. This would be a long afternoon without any shade. Honestly, it’s best to travel with your own umbrella in this region, as most of the beaches either have limited palapas or charge for their use. We got the fist palapa by the rock formation, and it was such a beautiful spot everyone invaded our space in order to get their Instagram photos, or get by to wade over to the mushroom rock. I don’t blame them, bc it was a great spot. Just a little annoying at times (there was a lack of personal space. So, if you want to be undisturbed, don’t choose that first palapa. There is no cell service and no facilities there, so bring a cooler with ice, drinks and any food you need. The water is crystal clear and the sand is white. The water isn’t very deep, even during high tide. Check the tide schedule before you go, bc I think its waaaay better at high tide. I swam across to the beach directly across the water and back (about 1/2 mile each way). There was only an area in the very middle where the water was just over 6ft deep during high tide. We went once, and that was enough bc there are so many other beaches to see that you don’t have to wait on line to get in to. Playa Tecolote is very close to there and is an awesome beach for swimming and chilling out.

    Please HELP the stray dogs
Balandra is amazing. But it is located in the middle of nowhere and there are 4 or 5 stray dogs that were abandoned there . The people who take care of the place feed them (as much as they can) but it’s not enough and they do look malnourished so if you can, please take some food and fresh water for them. This place is just magical, as shown on the pictures. The view from the top is amazing. The beach itself might get a little crowded but if you walk a little further down (take an umbrella with you) you can probably get a nice stretch of beach to yourself.

Beautiful! Do the view point hike for sure.
This beach is open 8-12 and 1-5. We got there about 10 and went to the beach and the overlook. We left at 1130 and there was already a line for the afternoon time. Bring water sandals. The rocks are sharp. You may want sneakers for the overlook. There is a dry toilet. And they sell water and umbrellas at the front entrance.

    Beach time at Balandra!
Go in the morning shift to avoid long lines! The beach is pristine! The agency (state/gov?) that runs the beach does a great job! To keep it clean and enjoyable they allow access in two shifts, 8-12 and 1-close. The long crescent beach allows for spreading out to enjoy the sun. The water is shallow and clear. You can rent Kayaks and/or SUP to paddle around. There is a trail to a view point above the beach which is easy to moderate depending on your age and physical fitness.

    AMAZING!
Worth the visit! As has been stated, plan to arrive early prior to your entry time. Amazing sandy beach and wading in the water is special. Rented a 2 person kayak for 400 pesos(cash only) and was worth it. Recommend doing the short hike to viewpoint for excellent photo ops.

To get into Playa Balandra there are two entry slots: 8 am to 12, and 1-5 pm. Cars line up outside the entrance in a dirt road to the right if the entrance road. Today we arrived at 11:30 am and got in line for the 1 pm slot. There were already about 40 cars already lined up. They let a max of 450 people in so we were glad we had come early. After waiting 1.5 hours we got to the front and they would not let us in. Our RV is 24 feet long and they said no RVs. We were super disappointed because we had not read this anywhere. Left and went to Tecolote which is beautiful too.

Beautiful shallow water cove. The pictures don't do it justice. Limited amount of visitors in each time slot from 8-12 and 1-5 so get there early. This was our first visit and we enjoyed it immensely. Next time we plan on renting one of the kayaks and going to one of the several secluded beaches across the bay.

Otherworldly! So thankful for the tip we were given about this beach. Words and photos can’t really do it justice. So beautiful and though it can get crowded, we went on a Saturday and there were several spots that felt like you were on a secluded, completely private beach. Do the short hike up for the 360 views then enjoy the beach and walking far out into the shallow, crystal clear water. Beautiful experience we will cherish forever!

This little piece of paradise is exquisite to look at. However, very touristy with time slots for your visit so be careful to check these out. Water is fresh , really cold in the morning before the sun really heats you up. Other than kayaking not a lot to do so take a good book to relax. Very shallow waters all the way across. First on the beach will grab the free huts otherwise grab/take an umbrella because it does get very hot. Worth the 30 min drive out of town and does have plenty of hiking trails where you can view the entire area from above. It really was picturesque.

Spent the day here with the family. Short taxi ride from La Paz. Beautiful beach. Super shallow so it's great for kids to swim. Unfortunately there's no services or washrooms in the parking area.

Balandra beach is beautiful and not to be missed! We arrived early and secured a palapa--this or an umbrella is really necessary. The sun is hot! As the tide went out, you could walk across the bay and the water was clear. So beautiful! We also hiked the path to Tecolote beach, which had amazing views.

Would give it five stars if we went when tide was in. Recommend checking that before leaving. Had no problem getting in mid week for the 1pm, showed up at 12:40pm.

Part of a swimming with whale sharks tour we did. We stopped at Balandra for lunch. Stunning, stunning beach with fine white sand and clear, clean waters. The part we were on could really only be accessed by boat so it was completely deserted. The beach is protected and they are rightfully careful about how many people can visit each day. Try and go, it’s so worth it!

Pretty beach and worth the effort. The area is so shallow that swimming is limited. They do have 2 person kayaks for rent which was a fun way to explore. Take a picnic!
