The ferry across was very calm and what a surprise awaited us, a huge expanse of land, spotted several wild animals along with the resident sheep. We were lucky to watch the bird ringing, an interesting experience, especially for the younger members of our party...More

Although we tried to arrive early, we were still on the 4th ferry of the day (so time for a coffee in the nearby tearooms). A windy day, but not at all choppy on the short boat ride across - it could very easily be...More

We visited today and was surprised how quiet it was. We left our car In the castle car park as parking there is £2 for the whole day. We had a lovely walk around looking at the boats, sadly as it was Monday most places...More

Orford Ness is a shingle spit off the Suffolk coast, accessed by National Trust-run ferry. It’s a unique barren landscape – a must for bird watchers and photographers. There’s a 5-mile route to walk - the area is littered with military relics. A unique experience.

Worth a detour, in fair weather, to experience such a rare landscape. Also consider the other protected (ex military) site which served from the early experiments with radar through the cold war. Extraordinary combination of wildlife, landscape and history.

Fascinating visit. Allow plenty of time as each route is about 3.5 kilometres. A very varied history and often things happening so worth checking the website beforehand.

A very nice place for a leisurely walk , plenty of things to look at and depending on what time of year you go different routes to walk . Ferry over runs every 20 minutes until 2 and volunteers soon radio across for ferry to...More

This was just a quick visit on my way home but it was enticing enough that I will return. It has promise of great walks, historic interest and a boat ride if the weather is nice. But really it's all about the views and just...More
