Lovingly surrounded by nature, the troglodyte site of la Magnanerie de Bourré will amaze visitors longing for a different experience. Overlooking the Cher valley, this true paradise will leave no one untouched. Come and feel the serenity of a world made of galleries secretly hidden within a sunny hillside. Oh yes, some people are lucky enough to live there ... and it will be their pleasure to show you around : the old "tuffeau" galleries (where the Loire castles stones were quarried), the 17th century silkworm farm (learn all about silk production in the region and the rearing of silkworms) and the traditional cave dwellings (hear about everyday life inside the rock).Access to the site is by guided tour only. The hour-long visit is fun, educational and guided by one of the inhabitants. So, if you wonder why and how people still live "in there" nowadays : feel free to ask. Your host will be more than happy to explain. The tours can be offered both in French and English

Brilliant for all ages. The talk by a real 'cave dweller' was excellent and a summary translation into English of each section was given as we went around. Very informative but visual too. Perfect for all ages. Please don't make the same mistake us though...More

Enjoyable visit despite the guided tour being mainly in French. Laurent did kindly throw us a few English titbits to try and keep us in the loop. Never had a tour which included somebody's living room before. It is very much that kind of place....More

Laurent who showed us around speaks the clearest french and the best english of all those I have mér in France. Fit for all ages, fascinating history of cavemen now and before in France and extremely interesting to see and hear about silkworms.

We have just returned from our tour of La Magnanerie. We all thoroughly enjoyed the visit. It was nice to see the Troglo lifestyle in modern times. The tour up through the galleries (caves carved out of the stone hillside, as opposed to the naturally...More
