Skyline drive was one of the highlights of our city tour. The views while driving up are amazing and the same for when you arrive at the lookout.
It was part of a St Thomas driving tour that we did on our last day. We went in an open (safari style) taxi with Skeno Jean- Baptiste (+13406900148) who was the best taxi and tour driver we could have asked for. A lot of the Taxi drivers we came across were very impatient and in some cases rude so he was a breath of fresh air, always pleasant and went above and beyond for us every time we were able to use his service. Including taking us to Magen’s bay beach (which wasn’t part of our tour route and waiting for us while we took a walk on the beach)
If you’re doing Skyline drive, you’ll wanna include drake’s seat and mountain top which are nearby. I highly recommend an open air vehicle for this so the views during the drive aren’t diminished.

St Thomas is a mountainous island and Skyline Drive is actually a section of Route 40 that travels along the crest of the mountain that is the center of the island with a pullout providing an excellent panoramic view to the south of the harbor, Charlotte Amalie, Hassel Island and Water Island, not the tramway known as Paradise Point Tramway, with its own listing, that most of the reviews and pictures posted to this attraction refer to. To travel Skyline Drive and visit the overlook, one will either need to rent a car or take a taxi in order to tour the island. While traveling Skyline Drive, be sure to stop by Drake’s Seat which is another nearby, more famous outlook providing views to the north of Magens Bay and the British Virgin Islands in the distance.

Definitely worth the price of admission for a short ride up to Paradise where the view is amazing and great for scenic pictures of the hilltop houses, sailboats, and the town. There are a few shops as well as a bar with friendly bartenders. This attraction is within walking distance of the cruise port, across from the shopping area and I believe the cost was $20-$22 per person (I don't remember the exact amount) but it is money well spent on a relaxing, scenic ride.

One of my favorite parts of St Thomas was renting a Jeep and driving Skyline Drive. There's nothing like steep hills, hairpin curves, while driving on the wrong side of the road. Beware of locals tho. Apparently "island time" stops once they enter their vehicles. Islanders speed, tailgate, pass on hilly curves, and come at you in the center of the road until they see you. All part of the fun! My only issue was not enough pullouts to enjoy the views. Drakes Seat was best. Also, don't miss Mountain Top.
Highly recommended!

You get to see the Island from a unique perspective...the top looking over the island and the beauty of the water and beaches are awesome.

This road offers up some amazing views of the blue water, and green island down below. It is a bit windy and don't expect to go 55mph, odds are you won't get to much over 30. That just allows you to enjoy it though. And as the nice young man in Charlotte Amalie reminded me as I was driving "On the left, On the left" but maybe that's why they put big stickers on the rentals, so people know to remind people to drive on the left side of the road.

This scenic overlook is definitely worth a visit. On days with cruise ships in port, there will be vendors in the parking lot selling things and lots of taxis in and out with tours. If you are staying on the island, pick a day when there are no cruise ships in port, if possible. It will be virtually empty and easy to pull in and enjoy the view at your leisure. Either way, stop here for a few minutes...gorgeous views of the island.

Driving on the left, hair pin turns, shear drop offs and steep inclines.
If your driving, not much sight seeing. If your not paying close attention you could get into big trouble.
I really love the drive and did pull over a few times into someone's driveway to take a look at the view.

We did the skyline drive --I was the brave one driving. Dizzying heights and stomach-churning but gorgeous views of the bays, town, ocean, and surrounding islands. Don't leave St. Thomas without doing this!

How long does this drive roughly take? I understand it will be different for everyone, but just a general idea. Thank you!
