What a fabulous trip! No sooner we’re we out of the harbour and we saw whales. We then found DOZENS of dolphins that we spent a really good half an hour with, it was incredible! The captain really knew how to act around them, we were quite, slow, calm, and then they raced our wake too - all in all - wonderful! This was our 2nd trip with CM and will most definitely go again next vacation!

We booked this excursion through Island Routes for our honeymoon. While we had a good time, it was a disappointment for me. I’ve been deep sea fishing many times and never experienced taking 10 minute turns for the rods. Two people out of nine caught a couple small barracuda. One person got seasick but most people I talked with took Dramamine.

Captian on our boat (Mario) was a lovely guy. However his helper (Matthew) was so rude and unpleasant. I brought my fishing rod and trolling lures with me, he made such a big deal out of it. He didn't want me to use my gear even though this was agreed on before booking the trip. He wouldnt talk to us the whole trip and when we talked to him he would just ignore us. Made the trip very awkward and unpleasant especially that we did NOT catch anything. Not even a bonito. Definitely wouldnt recommend

Purchased the excursion through Sandals. Arrived at a beautiful little harbor and boarded our boat. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They had drinks and bananas available. It was a short ride before they told us there were some dolphins spotted. We saw a large pod of Risso's dolphins. The captain circled the boat to give us a good view of the 15 or so dolphins and we did this for 15-20 minutes I would guess. We then headed down the coast toward the Pitons. The scenery was beautiful but unfortunately it turned into just a boat ride as we did not see any other dolphins (I really didn't expect to see whales). It has to be tough to find moving animals in a massive ocean and I understand that. It was still disappointing.

Fantastic trip with Mikes tours! We done the whale and dolphin watching and I will say we were very lucky to see both!!
We were so lucky to see at least 6 sperm whales close by and even! One jumped out of the water!
Also managed to get to see loads of dolphins that came and swam along the side of the boat!
The captain and crew were very good and kept a good distance from the whales. Highly recommend this trip.
I would look to get the pictures from the lovely couple with the drone footage.
Thanks again

We had a great time fishing on one of the charter boats that Sandals La Toc partners with. Mario was our captain and Matthew was our first mate and they were excellent. They made sure everyone caught a fish (there were 8 of us) and had a good time. If you charter one of Capt Mike’s, request this dynamic duo! You’ll not regret it!

Top notch whale watching excursion. My party of seven enjoyed the pod of pilot whales we saw. The music, rum punch, and conversation among travelers was great on the boat. This was my second year in a row visiting St Lucia and doing this excursion. It never gets old. So peaceful and serene on the water.

Note: Wear sunscreen! It’s hot. The sun is unforgiving and there’s not much coverage from the elements.

My wife and I charted the "Hack Attack," a 38 foot 1972 Bertram from Captian Mike's Bruce Hackshaw. Mr. Hackshaw had one thing on his mind when I walked in the door of his office. "Get as much money as fast as you can, and tack on 5% surcharge for the use of a credit card." The first words out of Mr. Hackshaws mouth was "the fish you catch belong to me." I knew this was not a good start. I have fished all over the world so this is not my first "rodeo," but due to lack of time to find another charter with only 2 days to fish, I had little choice.
The boat looked like it had not been upgraded since 1972, and the other boats at the dock looked the same. The back of the cabin had been removed, and there was no door or furniture inside. One 6' board bench and a 3' bench with a cushion so old, it was flat and stained an ugly yellowish brown. The fighting chair was beat up, and the plastic covering on it was torn. The boat was badly in need of a paint job, and the deck had a partial painting but never completed. The flying bridge had 2 seats, with cushions in the same condition along with the cushioned trim that was hanging from the side of the bridge. The curtain around the flying bridge had been removed due to old age and never replaced, consequently we got soaked by the rain with no place to hide.
The good news is Captain Noah did the best he could to put us on a fish, and the deck hand Matthew did a good job helping out. Considering a $1000 for the charter, it is obvious there is no reinvestment in the boats. The Captain only gets a wage of $42 per day, and the deck hand $36 per day for an 8 hour day, so you would think there was a profit margin big enough to upgrade boat and tackle.
The fishing tackle consisted of old Shimano 50W reels with 1 strand of 80lb test monofilament line right down to the lure, no double leaders or braided line to help prevent the line from fraying or breaking. Captain Noah put me on a blue marlin in the 400+ lb class that took 300 yards and was still going when the line made a clean break way above the lure. I asked the Captain when was the last time the line was changed, and he was afraid to answer. It looked like at least a year or maybe longer, but he just said, "it has been a long time." Another double hook up of 2 white marlin resulted in me landing 1, and the second broke the hook. I mean the hook actually broke in half which is something I have never seen for a hook that thick on a 30lb.-40lb fish. I can only guess it was weakened by corrosion.
When we returned to the dock at 4:10 pm, the family of the crew were there, but not Bruce Hackshaw. Nobody asked how our day went or gave a thank you for our business. Mr. Hackshaw not being there surprised me, because I noted I might charter his boat for a second day. Needless to say, I did not fish again. If he had been there, I would have told him everything I am writing in this review. All the people there wanted to do was beat feet for home, because the pay stopped at 4 pm.
The bottom line is, if you are going fishing in St. Lucia, stay away from Hackshaw charters. The Exodus looks like a first class operation compared to anything Hackshaw has. Captain Mike's Hackshaw Charters is milking their boats to get as much cash out of them before they sink.
Good luck,
Colonel Dick Rosser, USMC (Ret.)

I certainly enjoyed this boat trip, but it was disappointing that we didn't see any whales or dolphins. The seas were quite rough the day I went out, so several passengers were seasick. It's best to have some seasick meds with you just in case. I did see some schools of flying fish and some sea birds diving for fish. There are lots of good views of the Pitons for photos.
