- ViatgesrjrMayaguez, Puerto Rico1,198 contributionsPhotographer's Delight, Chapter 2We took the Coastal Cruise to the Pitons through Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas. The first impression was that it was overcrowded, but the catamaran was large enough for the big group. This was our second time on this tour, wedecided to enjoy the beauty of this tour once again. It is mostly a sightseeing tour with opportunity for enjoying the wonderful breeze and beauty. There are about 30 minutes for swimming, but I focused on taking close to 400 photos over 3.5 hours. Great crew, which helped us have a wonderful time.Visited December 2022Written December 22, 2022
- Brett H1 contributionIt’s a death cone!!I am not one to normally write reviews of geological features, but I could not allow the 1 star reviews of these majestic peaks go undefended. Others have complained that the mountain was a very difficult hike. Or that it rained while they were hiking which made the rocks slippery. Yes, it is a cone shaped mountain. One look at it should let you know it is a steep climb. Although you may be on vacation, the laws of physics still apply to the friction coefficient of wet rocks. Also I would like to defend the guides. People have complained that their guide didn’t give a nature lesson while climbing this beast. They also, predictably, complained about the $50 cost. The role of the guide is not to teach you about local plants. The guide is there to safely get you up and back down this cone of death. Also, you try hiking this thing 4 times a day dragging out-of-shape middle aged Karens up this slope. $50 is not nearly enough. So big dangerous hill. If you get out of breath walking to the mall, this isn’t for you.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 19, 2023
- Gran71,621 contributionsStunningYou cannot truly appreciate the magnificence of these volcanic peaks until you visit St Lucia. The lush colors of the peak towering over the beautiful colors of the Caribbean are so unique. Enjoy the peaks from land or water or for the brave—-take a climb! Definitely a highlight of our Caribbean vacationVisited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 25, 2023
- Beau Schless8 contributionsLe Gross Piton ClimbIf you are mildly fit, climbing the Gross piton is for you. It took us 2 1/2 hours each way. You must hire a guide ($55 a person), but ours was knowledgeable and helpful. The climb is a mix of rocky steps and scrambling over boulders. The trails are moderately busy. Nearly at the top there was a fellow selling beer, energy drinks, and water and some foreign substance (he that can’t be named). The view from the top was so so but pretty. Start early, bring a lunch and water. Like all of st Lucia, you will be over charged for the experience. But they are trying to build the economy with tourism, and still in the early throes.Visited February 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 8, 2023
- MikeP11 contributionsGros PitonsThese are 'must see' peaks and they can be seen from various places. The Gros Pitons climb is very steep over continuous rough ground. A guide is required for safety rather than navigation. Even experienced walkers seem to struggle with the ascent in the heat. The views from the summit are a bit limited by vegetation (and if you go in poor weather). There are two summit viewpoints, 30 mins apart. If you're slow on the ascent, your guide might not take you to the second viewpoint.Visited February 2023Written February 22, 2023

So the pitons and views were beautiful and then the sulphur springs were fun, delicious homemade food to try and plenty of drinks. It was tiring but well worth the experience in which we also went out on a speed boat to a great little beach which was full of sea life.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 3, 2023

We stopped for bathroom break, and locals sold bananna bread, drinks, and souvenirs. The Pitons were beautiful. We did the same stop going back. Our driver David was a lot of fun.Visited May 2023Traveled with familyWritten May 13, 2023
- Kelsey W2 contributionsHike to the top of the Piton! We made it to the top!!! What a great feeling of accomplishment and a way to take in some of the best views in the Caribbean! The local tour guides are great and help you stay safe on the steep trails. This hike is not for the faint of heart. If you had too many Piton beers the night before or haven’t worked out recently, I’d skip it for sure! But if you’re in for a challenge, you’ll be rewarded by the vast views, culture and foliage along the trail. It’s $50 USD per person, the guides work on tips and you can grab a taxi to take you there. Could be one of the more affordable tours available!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 20, 2023
- Kelli A9 contributionsGreat trip!We enjoyed our stay here. The food was delicious and the service was mostly outstanding! I want to make a special mention of Keyanna at The Pitons restaurant. She was the best! I would also like to give a shout out to Lershon at The Pitons restaurant. He had the best attitude and personality. We enjoyed him bring our waiter the second time we ate there. This was our favorite restaurant for dinner and we enjoyed Armando’s for breakfast.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 2, 2023

We rented a car and drove from Sandals Grande to Sugar Beach to see the Pitons.. since we’ve driven a lot outside the US we knew what to expect (we survived a scooter in Bermuda so we can survive anything lol)
If you’ve never driven in the Caribbean, be warned. They drive fast, the roads are extremely curvy and you think you’re going to hit the oncoming traffic at all times. Just stay alert - and when they honk, it’s being polite or saying thank you or saying go ahead of me and such (not like in the US where a honk is basically you yelling profanities at the other car).
So we make the 2 hour drive down - it’s always two hours because there is no “rush hour” lol it’s always rush hour.
It was worth it. The Pitons are so massively breathtaking- you just stare. Your brain almost can’t compute the grandness of them. Awe inspiring.
It was difficult to get to Sugar Beach as well - you have to park at the public parking spaces the walk down a super steep curvy little road that’s inside a resort (note if you make one purchase at the resorts beach you get a shuttle back up to your car so keep your receipt) I wouldn’t have made that walk back up to our car. It’s that steep.
The beach in between the Pitons (Sugar Beach) is absolutely gorgeous - look left and see Gros Piton, look right and see Petit Piton.. stunning!
The resort seemed very nice and we may consider it one day however getting offered weed to buy within a few seconds of arriving to the beach was irritating. (I am noticing a much harder push than usual when it comes to vendors and basically people just asking for money/tips. It’s such a dark cloud over your vacation. I understand they’re trying to make money but I work 80 hours a week so when I’m on vacation, I want to be left alone. I work like a machine to be able to go wherever I want and I don’t want one moment of irritation.
Anyway.. the Pitons are an ABSOLUTE MUST! The are beyond incredible and I even snapped a shot of Petit Piton with my drone!

The climb takes about 2 hours and is very steep and demanding. But the views are fabulous. The guide, Winston, was great and very patient, since my wife is in great shape, she made it with no problem.

Powered cat boat cruise along the west coast to the Pitons. Excellent views and much easier than driving from the cruise port. I view the Pitons as a must-see experience.

I’d recommend a catamaran tour to view the pitons. Apparently it’s a very hard hike up there. Best view from the sea. We used carnival tours booked through our cruise ship 🚢

We made it half way up this beautiful but very challenging hike! I would recommend going halfway = the last mile is full of verticle rock scrambles!

If you are booking directly at the hiking station it is US $50 per person, however if you're staying at a hotel or resort and there is an excursions desk they may sell a package

Hi all ! We're aboard the Marella Explorer and will be docking in Castries St Lucia tomorrow. I'd like to see the view from the Pitons without Hiking to the top (we have a friend who can't walk far), a waterfall and a couple hours visit to Le Toc beach. Do you think it reasonable to do all that in 7 hours ? We'll probably ask a taxi driver to run us around tomorrow but wondered if do-able !! Obviously not to the top of the Pitons but not sure how far up you can get by road ? (If at all). If not we'll just admire from afar ! Thanks all in advance.
