About
Lined with swanky resorts and high-rise hotels, this large beach is a popular spot in San Juan, loved for its vibrant scene, lively dining, and endless array of things to do. While swimming isn't encouraged (powerful rip tides are common here), you can still lounge by the beach and watch surfers, boogie boarders, and parasailers ride the currents. There are also recreational areas like Ventana al Mar where you can take part in an outdoor yoga session or some aqua fitness. Drop by the beach on a city tour of San Juan, which often includes a stop here. – Tripadvisor

I wanted to spend some time at the beach while in San Juan. We were able to get a good 3 hours at the beach before the rain arrived. Access to beach chairs were very reasonable and the vendors on site had good treats!

Condado has some dangerous places to swim:

****In front of La Concha (La Ventana el Mar adjacent) is probably the worst. I got caught in the rip current there in 2017.

If you walk down that beach towards the Stellaris and find safer spots.

Last August, we accessed the beach from Condado Ave (by the CVS) and had an excellent time body boarding and body surfing.

Jetty-like structures (rock walls) should be avoided because they produce whirlpool-like eddy currents (like a recirculating eddy on a river). Obviously, in a protected lagoon area, the lagoon-side of one of those structures will be more calm.

If you're in doubt, wear a PFD. The waves in San Juan are no worse than the waves I've played in in FL or NC.

Use common sense, stay hydrated, and if you get tossed, stay calm until the wave spits you out.

Serious safety incident

Condado Beach is a very popular beach in San Juan...lined with resorts and popular. I love it just for the breeze it always seems to have and for the people watching! Wow! However, the one downside is that the water is quite dangerous. I highly recommend it for sunbathing and people-watching, but not for swimming. While we were there, two people drowned. Maybe get your feet wet if you go, but no more than that. You can enjoy the beach without risking your life.

It’s a city beach. The people watching is incredible. Great way to blow a day as you can eat in a million places on Ashford in between tanning.

I found this to be the perfect beach for me because I do not like to swim in the ocean. It has excellent views because there are no water sports going on due to the rough waves. It is a great beach for strolling along the water's edge and relaxing in the sand.

I fell in love with Condado so much, that we hosted our wedding on location. Elegant hotels, restaurants, boutiques and beautiful walking areas. This is not a beach town, but a nice area to relax, enjoy the scene and nightlife. Not all areas are recommended for swimming, if that is your interest, I suggest neighboring Isla Verde.

NOT a swimmable beach. Most hotels in this area have the beach completely closed off for safety although the views are still great. There’s a nearby beach that’s kind of like a natural pool, it is walking distance but beware if you want a swimmable beach.

It’s a small beach. You can rent a chair and umbrella. Theres a view of buildings in the city. If you’re going to enjoy light water and nice sand I’d recommend Isla Verde or Terraplen La Posita de Piñones which a little further.

I stayed in the area and my first day I went here. If you are visiting, there was no one selling umbrellas or chairs. There is a Walgreens and CVS nearby, I recommend purchasing a chair their for your stay. The waves here were ridiculous that you can’t swim. It’s a beautiful beach but only to walk and enjoy the view. Go down the street to the smaller beach.
