I've been to this place twice now. Once it was packed, and once there was hardly anybody there. Both times I had great drinks made for me by friendly bartenders. They really take a lot of pride in making their delicious concoctions. They're also just really cool to talk with. Worth hitting up when you're out at night in Old San Juan if you're looking for a smaller, quainter bar (and especially if you like trying new drinks!).

I love sitting at bars and watching the goings on and chatting with the bartender, if they aren't too busy. El Farolito bar makes great cocktails and they put much thought into each component of each drink they make. Try the old fashioned with rum or the negroni with guava instead of sweet vermouth.

If you are looking for a straight-up local puerto rico dive bar to chill at. this is definitely the best one! my boyfriend and i were traveling from NY and came in here TWICE - once on our overnight layover to Tortola and then again during the layover back. the artwork all over the wall was super cool and done by the owner. it was dim lighting so set the mood right. the drinks were OUT OF THIS WORLD! they had their own recipes from scratch and the bartenders definitely knew exactly what they were doing. Luiz was the bartender we had the first time and he was awesome - i was hesitant about drinking rum but knew i wanted to try it here since its a staple. he made me a delicious rum drink (on the girly-er side so i could handle it) with a little sweetness and a good kick to it. super friendly and helped us find a wine and tapas bar late night when we were starving! (the mezzanine - also highly recommend). Ivan was our bartender the second time we came (this time we brought a few of our friends we had met up with) and he was super attentive and very precise making each drink perfect. Everyone loved it. Definitely visit this place for an authentic experience!

I must admit that we were nearly put off by the cramped interior, but once we sipped our first rum drink, we were hooked, and made an evening of it. When crafting the cocktails, fruit juices were freshly squeezed, orange peels flamed, and the bartender's attention to detail was perfection. Do not go here to order Bacardi & Coke....take advantage of the bartender's skills!

Had this place recommended to us by some people we met at another bar...see a pattern here. You gotta go there with an open mind. My car at home is bigger than this bar. The bartender (big dude all tattooed up) was a great guy. Never judge a bar or bartender or a book by its cover. The guy (wish i could remember his name) was a true mixologist. When in town on a cruise skip the crap at the pier and walk 5 more minutes. you won't regret it.

This was a great find by complete luck. The rum old fashioned is the order of the day and is hand crafted to perfection. Small but mighty venue.

This small bar is a cool little spot. What it lacks in space it makes up in ambiance. Enjoy a game of chess or make a new friend at the bar. The staff are fun and make magic in a glass. A home away from home. Love the staff. Humberto is the bomb.

I am not a creature of habit, preferring the unpredictability of daily life without routine...but...this awesome, tiny, crazy bar has turned my life upside down in the coolest way possible!! El Farolito is the "habit" I don't want to lose! Going to be in PR for just one week...and El Farolito is where I will be every night for a drink before hitting the pillow.

First night there was Halloween..and I had on or two...maybe three...too many...and was just walking by when I looked in and thought "holy sh@tballs...I'm home!" Bartender...no..not bartender...MIXOLOGIST Tee Jay graciously put up with my annoying presence and prepared a most delicious drink! No idea what was in it...but watching him prepare it with such focus and art was in itself and experience worth repeating...so I had a second one. I ooooo'd and aaahhh'd and shamelessly promoted my band (yeah...corny, corny move), but not once was I made to feel like an annoyance. Thank you Tee Jay!

Second night was last night. This second night was even better! Mixologist Humberto RAAAWWKKSS!! Made me such a delicious drink and again, just like Tee Jay, with so much gusto, focus and art!! No idea what was in it either...but soooo good....so of course...I had a few repeats. Played chess for the first time in about 20 years with one of the patrons, guy from Norway with the coolest names ever! Met the owner Tony, another absolutely cool cat! And...well...sang along to all the tunes in full voice and it was FUN!

All in all, this is by far the best bar/hangout I have been to in a very long time. The owner, the mixologists, and the patrons are equally awesome. Truly a place that anyone visiting old San Juan MUST experience. And let the mixologists surprise you! Just tell them what flavours you like and they will definitely satisfy! Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Had a hard time finding this place, mainly because I had the wrong address. When we got there my wife wasnt sure she wanted to go in. My wife is a wine drinker and was promptly informed they dont serve wine.
Boy am I glad I went with my first instincts. What a wonderful cocktail bar. It was a real treat to watch these men work. They fixed up concoctions based one our likes and they were exceptional. Every drink was better than the last.
Dont let initial appearances stop you from trying this place out. You wont be disappointed.
