The property is privately owned; tours are available. ( we went through a cruise ship shore excursion). The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the caves and history of the area. Her affect was somewhat neutral. But ...be advised...these are limestone caves and very close to the surface in a very hot, tropical climate. The cave formations are truly awe inspiring but the temperature was somethng like being in a very wet sauna. So for comfort..1 or two stars for the sights...4 stars for the tour guide 3 stars Hence, my review of 3 stars

My wife and I planned to come see the cave before we had left home. It was a great time. From the lizards on the grounds and the turtles in an enclosed space, it was great. The cave guide was very informative and funny. Only 10.00 USD.

Nice tour as a couple with good guides and very knowledgeable. It was insanely hot inside with little fans that helped a bit. Realize how dark it is when the lights went out. Appreciated the opportunity for photos in certain areas. Pretty good cave system overall with trails outside.

At $10 US per person for a guided tour, this is a good value activity. Because of the temperature on the island while we were there, we booked the first tour of the day to beat the worst of the heat, and though it was warm in the caves there were lots of fans located throughout to help cool guests off. An interesting feature of these caves is that they are located above ground rather than underground. You do have to walk up 49 steps to access the opening, but it is quite easy to do and taken very slowly. Once in the cave itself you are on a paved path that doesn't change much in elevation. We saw limestone formations, pools and fruit bats - it was really a good tour. We liked that photos are only permitted in a couple of places, so you aren't constantly being held up by people taking selfies. Everyone else on our tour was Dutch but the guide, with their permission, did the tour just in English so we could all understand and he didn't have to switch back and forth - nice of them and the guide to accommodate us that way. Also on the site are a cactus garden and a paved "Indian Trail" with signs identifying the various plants and trees, Indian petroglyphs in the rocks, and lizards everywhere. Allocate about an hour for the tour and the trail.

The tour was about 45 minutes, it was a fun activity but the cave was not to big. The tour guide was very nice and did a great job telling us about the cave and the history of the island. Definitely a fun activity to do if you are looking for something different than the beach.

Very fun, or guide was very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. The bats were cute, the caverns and history were very interesting. Despite the numerous fans inside, this is a hot and humid 45 minutes. The Indian Trail was also very interesting and was self guided. Lots of Iguanas around. A must see when in Curacao.

Nice but commercial cave with limited information/education during the tour. The bathrooms are free and there is a snack stand that accepts credit cards. In addition there is a small trail. Cost is about 35$ by taxi from the capital. Pictures are only allowed in one place. Would recommend seeing other caves such as the fertility cave instead. However this is 5 mins from the airport. If you are looking for a short stop prior to going home this would be perfect!

Hato Caves was a cool experience. It is a short tour (35-45 min) but the guide was very informed about the formation and discovery of the caves. He also explained the formations found in the cave. If you like to see and learn about different things, its a great way to spend an hour. Things to know before you go: The tour starts with a walk up 49 steps. The guide does take it slow and allows time to rest at the top but if you have mobility issues, this may be something to think about. It is HOT and HUMID in the caves. You will sweat for the entire tour, bring water. There is a small snack bar there where you can purchase water and other items There is only one area where you are allowed to take photos and the guide will let you know when that is. You have to go down the same 49 steps when you leave the caves and they are uneven in places.

The sight is simply incredible. We decided the to visit the Hato cave, the day before our trip ended and we are glad that we did. The entrance fee is only $10. I suggest that instead of booking an excursion to get a taxi or a rental car take you there and just pay the entrance fee. Also wear comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight to see the hidden bats 🦇inside the cave. It’s like walking inside the underworld…if that even makes sense. I wore flat and they were not the best fitted gear to wear on such occasion. Go for it and I promise you will enjoy the view. Don’t forget to take pics.

Our tour guide Daisy informed us about the caves history, pointed out different formations and needle nosed bats. We were not allowed to take photographs. Flash photography would disturb the bats. Towards the end of the tour, Daisy said we could take photos. Daisy offered to take photos of couples/ groups together. There are 50 steep concrete stairs needed to climb up and down from the caves. The good thing there are metal handrails on both sides of the steps. If you take your time, they aren’t as daunting. There is a $10 admission fee. On the grounds, there is an enclosure with turtles. The turtles faces have bright orange and yellow markings.
