    Hot hot hot
The property is privately owned; tours are available. ( we went through a cruise ship shore excursion). The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the caves and history of the area. Her affect was somewhat neutral. But ...be advised...these are limestone caves and very close to the surface in a very hot, tropical climate. The cave formations are truly awe inspiring but the temperature was somethng like being in a very wet sauna. So for comfort..1 or two stars for the sights...4 stars for the tour guide 3 stars Hence, my review of 3 stars

    Fun cave in Curacao
My wife and I planned to come see the cave before we had left home. It was a great time. From the lizards on the grounds and the turtles in an enclosed space, it was great. The cave guide was very informative and funny. Only 10.00 USD.

    Guided cave tour; very informational
Nice tour as a couple with good guides and very knowledgeable. It was insanely hot inside with little fans that helped a bit. Realize how dark it is when the lights went out. Appreciated the opportunity for photos in certain areas. Pretty good cave system overall with trails outside.

    Good value, worth a stop
At $10 US per person for a guided tour, this is a good value activity. Because of the temperature on the island while we were there, we booked the first tour of the day to beat the worst of the heat, and though it was warm in the caves there were lots of fans located throughout to help cool guests off. An interesting feature of these caves is that they are located above ground rather than underground. You do have to walk up 49 steps to access the opening, but it is quite easy to do and taken very slowly. Once in the cave itself you are on a paved path that doesn't change much in elevation. We saw limestone formations, pools and fruit bats - it was really a good tour. We liked that photos are only permitted in a couple of places, so you aren't constantly being held up by people taking selfies. Everyone else on our tour was Dutch but the guide, with their permission, did the tour just in English so we could all understand and he didn't have to switch back and forth - nice of them and the guide to accommodate us that way. Also on the site are a cactus garden and a paved "Indian Trail" with signs identifying the various plants and trees, Indian petroglyphs in the rocks, and lizards everywhere. Allocate about an hour for the tour and the trail.

    Nice cave and tour
The tour was about 45 minutes, it was a fun activity but the cave was not to big. The tour guide was very nice and did a great job telling us about the cave and the history of the island. Definitely a fun activity to do if you are looking for something different than the beach.

    Awesome Caves
Very fun, or guide was very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. The bats were cute, the caverns and history were very interesting. Despite the numerous fans inside, this is a hot and humid 45 minutes. The Indian Trail was also very interesting and was self guided. Lots of Iguanas around. A must see when in Curacao.

    Nice, short tour
Nice but commercial cave with limited information/education during the tour. The bathrooms are free and there is a snack stand that accepts credit cards. In addition there is a small trail. Cost is about 35$ by taxi from the capital. Pictures are only allowed in one place. Would recommend seeing other caves such as the fertility cave instead. However this is 5 mins from the airport. If you are looking for a short stop prior to going home this would be perfect!

    Short but interesting tour
Hato Caves was a cool experience. It is a short tour (35-45 min) but the guide was very informed about the formation and discovery of the caves. He also explained the formations found in the cave. If you like to see and learn about different things, its a great way to spend an hour. Things to know before you go: The tour starts with a walk up 49 steps. The guide does take it slow and allows time to rest at the top but if you have mobility issues, this may be something to think about. It is HOT and HUMID in the caves. You will sweat for the entire tour, bring water. There is a small snack bar there where you can purchase water and other items There is only one area where you are allowed to take photos and the guide will let you know when that is. You have to go down the same 49 steps when you leave the caves and they are uneven in places.

The African queens queens visit at the Hato Cave.
The sight is simply incredible. We decided the to visit the Hato cave, the day before our trip ended and we are glad that we did. The entrance fee is only $10. I suggest that instead of booking an excursion to get a taxi or a rental car take you there and just pay the entrance fee. Also wear comfortable shoes and bring a flashlight to see the hidden bats 🦇inside the cave. It’s like walking inside the underworld…if that even makes sense. I wore flat and they were not the best fitted gear to wear on such occasion. Go for it and I promise you will enjoy the view. Don’t forget to take pics.

Surprisingly, the hato caves are warm inside
Our tour guide Daisy informed us about the caves history, pointed out different formations and needle nosed bats. We were not allowed to take photographs. Flash photography would disturb the bats. Towards the end of the tour, Daisy said we could take photos. Daisy offered to take photos of couples/ groups together. There are 50 steep concrete stairs needed to climb up and down from the caves. The good thing there are metal handrails on both sides of the steps. If you take your time, they aren’t as daunting. There is a $10 admission fee. On the grounds, there is an enclosure with turtles. The turtles faces have bright orange and yellow markings.

Cave was much bigger than anticipated. Our tour group had about 10 people in it Tour price was reasonable and the guide (you must go with a guide) was very knowledgeable and explained in detail what we were seeing. As in most caves, there were bats. We like seeing the bats so that was a plus for us. A very smooth walkway has been made throughout the cave so walking is easy once you climb the 40+ steps to get to the cave.
On a side note, we enjoyed seeing and reading about the many species of cactus they've planted near the entrance.
They have a small restaurant but we had already eaten. Bottled water was reasonably priced.

Don't spend extra money to visit the caves with a tour. It's only $9/adult at the cave. My BF & I we're the only ones in our group on our tour. They have clean restrooms and a small snack shop. There is also a nice shaded walking trail to see the outside of the cave with differ vegetation on the walk to see. There are about 40 steps up to the cave but the tour guide did it slowly and took a short break. I didn't get winded at all and I'm overweight and out of shape. There was adequate parking and a security guard in the parking lot. We got there just in time. 2 buses came and I'm glad we got up there before the bus group. They can only take so many at a time up the steps and into the cave at a time.

These caves were used by the slaves to escape from the plantations and run along coast. They are privately run and you require a guide, to get into them you have to climb up 40 steps (and go down these again at the end). There is a well worn path throughout the caves which are larger than you might first think. There are plenty of stalagmites and stalactites in the limestone caves created by the deposition of calcium carbonate and other minerals, precipitated from mineralised water from the rain working its way through the limestone over thousands of years. There is a small river and lake, near the entrance the ceiling is black from the slaves fires. Further inside there are many bats which you can see flying around and a large cavern in which you are allowed to take pictures. The guide was very informative and well worth listening to.

After the visit there is a small cafe selling a limited range of drinks and snacks and - no tourist shop which was a shame.

So, the Hato Caves are a great 45 mins activity. The entrance is 9$US per adult, if you have a car, drive there. It's easy to get there. DONT GO AT 4 PM. We went at 4pm which was the last tour, and honestly lasted no more than 20 minutes. The guide was in a rush I guess to finish his day. (You can only take a pictures in certain areas)

We visited the Hato Caves and while they are smaller than others we’ve been to they were interesting and have a history worth learning about the island. You can only take pictures in one room but you have plenty of time to look around. After the cave tour we walked the grounds. There are 1,500 year old petroglyphs, and other interesting sites. We had a rental car and visited the caves and the Ostrich Farm on the same day. Everyone enjoyed it.

This stop was part of a tour excursion from NCL and while the site itself was pretty interesting; when you have multiple ships in town and this is included as a tour from most of them you cannot enjoy this place to its fullest. We were continuously moving over to let other groups through and our guide did not wait until everybody got back together before he started rattling off his spiel.
We really felt like we got the bum's rush and did not get a change to see the Indian hieroglyphics that were on site.
Something to be aware of if you get a chance to go when the ships aren't in is that there ae 49 or so irregular steep steps to the entry point.
There is a snack bar and restrooms on-site. I think this would be a really neat trip if you go go with a group of no more than 12 and had a guide that would take time to explain all the wonderful features within the cave
I think under t

I was a solo traveler that rented a car and drove to this location from my hotel in Willenstad. I found this location easy and convenient, and was able to purchase a ticket independently. They have guided tours on the hour, every hour, and I got there when the park opened, and was able to join the first tour of the day. The tour was approximately $10 USD, the guide was informative and entertaining, and was well worth the tiny fee for the tour. There is also a small trail to follow at the caves where you can see a lot of iguanas and local cacti. Definitely an easy quick to-do if you're on the island and want a local experience!

Average cave; visit if you have time, only.

Disappointing that they don’t let you take pictures because “it’s a commercial cave”, they say… I’ve been to numerous “commercial” caves, with much more stunning formations, where only professional pictures are not allowed (personal ones are). Must be they don’t want people posting the little there is to see inside… By the way, you only learn about this restriction at the beginning of the tour (after you already paid); not disclosed on their site.

The caves was really beautiful and interesting and we enjoyed our tour. Our guide was good explaining at showing everything.
After the tour we took the walking tour outside witch was also nice. If you start taking a picture of the board, so you know what you are looking at and then take the walk. This is something you do on your own.
We recommend that you get there early to avoid to many tourists and to big guided groups.

Interesting tour but don't expect to see Luray Caverns or Mammoth Cave--these caves are much smaller, but nonetheless interesting. The guide was very good giving a detailed account of the history and geology of the caves. It was about a 35-40 minute drive from the cruise dock through some of the colorful city but then the landscape turns to less than attractive areas. Tour lasted about 30 minutes.
