- Sean B4 contributionsHistory and beautyGo here for sure. Lots of history and beautiful views. No information signs but look at wiki and it will tell you about it. Medium challenge hike up a steep hill. At the time there was a rope mid way for the most challenging part. Do the place a favour and take litter back with you. I picked up other people’s on the way back and deposited in my resort. Guessing fellow tourists. Bring a bottle of water and take your time. About 45 mins round trip. Short walk from the Royalton or if not staying there there’s a dirt road leading to it from the south east.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 19, 2023
- Stephane H3 contributionsSimple but excellent HikeThis hike is an easy trek. You can add on a bit of excitement by going over the hill on which the Fort stands and cross over the shallow water and onto another small island. The views of St. John's Harbour and the morning sunrise are magnificent from Fort Barrington.Visited February 2023Written March 17, 2023
- Samuel CLondon, United Kingdom11 contributionsShort and slightly tough trek up, but worth it for the views.Steep but short trek up to the fort. Would definitely recommend trainers / hiking shoes for the climb up, and to avoid if it’s particularly windy or raining. There is a rope set up (as pictured) to help you on your way up. Once you get up there, the 360 degree views are well worth the climb. The fort itself has pretty much been abandoned, and there is no info provided once you get up there, so if you’re interested in the history, do your own research beforehand or afterwards. You can find the basic information online.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 25, 2023
- JulesbSouthLondonCoulsdon, United Kingdom236 contributionsWell worth a visit and stunning viewsI would say this a must do for anyone visiting Antigua. The views from the top were beautiful. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the top. It's not far but you have to be careful as it's easy to lose your footing. At the beginning you have to hold onto a rope to haul yourself up. There are no proper paths either. Not recommended for anyone pregnant, with young children or the elderly.Visited May 2023Written July 13, 2023

During the Seafood lunch cruise and the Sunset cruise, we passed the fort and was told about it. We did not tour it.

Fort Barrington overlooked the hotel we were staying in so it would have been rude not to take a look whilst we were there. The views from the top were absolutely incredible overlooking Deep Bay beach. One small tip, wear sensible shoes. We came straight from the beach in our flip flops and struggled in places as it's fairly dusty/rocky and steep - you deep to haul yourself up using a rope at one section. Otherwise, a lovely break from the beach with loads of photo opportunities.

Stayed in royalton in April. It is about 10 minutes walk on the beach, and then 7-10 minutes to the top. Spectacular views, and a short hiking path on top. harder to get down then up. Lots of opportunities to fall (not all the way down, but just fall), but very doable for anyone in average shape.

Short and pretty easy hike. A few steep spots that will be hard for some and need caution if wet. Tennis shoes just fine but do not suggest flip flops/beach shoes.

We were at the resort alongside this historic sight, it is well worth the climb if you are physically able. It is not for the week of heart LOL. The views from the Fort are magnificent!
Be sure to research the history.
