I've actually been here years ago. I've never known such a place like this before. It's really historical and one of a kind. The caretaker was friendly and definitely she knew what's within this place.

Don't worry even if the gate is closed there's a little gate opening at the side where you can enter. The caretakers are really nice and they are used to people going here for inquiries of prenups or if you just want to look around. It has a nice cozy place. It's eerie and beautiful at the same time. If you like vintage places and things, this is the right place for you. The rental for this place is cheap compared to the others. There are no elaborate packages, just the rental fee. You have to schedule it of course with the caretaker if you are gonna push through with the prenup. You can change clothes in one of their rooms and there is a toilet on the 2nd floor.

My friends and I grew up in Lipa City, and we thought we knew the city well enough. We actually went to Casa de Segunda on a whim. Most of us were photography hobbyists, so you can imagine how all of us were busy clicking on our DSLRs and smartphones. (You could literally hear the camera shutters because we were all busy.) Some of us were history enthusiasts, so having the history of Casa de Segunda, and of the whole Lipa City, told to us was really great. We certainly left the place having learnt a lot more of the city in which we grew up.

It is a lovely place to visit. The gate looks imposing, and it looks as if the place is not open to visitors, but it is. Just ring the small bell located near the small gate, and someone will come to let you in. The entrance fee is PHP50, but you can pay after you've toured the house. Everything inside is well kept, given that all of them are antiques. (It is interesting to note that Casa de Segunda still remains in the possession of the descendants of the family that owned it during the 1800s.) Do be careful when exploring the different parts of the house. Some of the pieces are already brittle, and must be touched with care, or not touched at all.

The facade of the whole place is perfect for photoshoots in a Filipiñana or old Español setting.

Come visit Casa de Segunda, and imagine yourself back in time!

At first, we are hesitant to enter the house because the gate was closed and we are not sure if they are still open for visitors. We tried to look for people to ask, and they said that we just need to ring the bell hanging beside the entrance. After a few attempts, someone opened the door for us. The lady was very accommodating, and she let us explore first the house before paying the fee.
Upon entering the compound, I have noticed the modern house on the left side where I believe the descendant of the Luz-Katigbak clan still lives and the one taking care of the old house. There are ancient utensils, furniture and photos of the Luz-Katigbak family. There are paintings, books and autobiography and piano as well. The design of the house itself showed that they are known to be one of the most prominent family in Lipa City ages ago.
The part of the house I most enjoyed, was the balcony, the garden and the fountain. It was indeed a happy experience for me. 

The place is well preserved, and there are lots of stories behind our national hero that can be found in this place.

Very nice experience. The house itself is a bit run down, but I suppose it is expected to be so - to show really that it is quite old. The current owner of the property, a charming old lady personally showed us around, explaining everything in a great detail. She seemed to be the grand-grand-daughter of the couple who built the house back in 1880. The visit was very informational about the way rich people lived at that time. Highly recommend to those who seek knowledge and love the past.

Casa de Segunda is an old heritage house in the poblacion of the City of Lipa. Named after Segunda Katigbak, a beautifull lass who was the first love by no less than our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the heritage house is one of the few century old houses in this city preserved by the families with its historical relevance. It is one culture and tourist destination that the present generations must see for themselves and be poud of.

Our visit to Casa Segunda was part of my husband's itinerary of places to see in Lipa. We were very fortunate to be toured by the great great grand daughter of Luz Katigbak - Lileth Malabanan herself. You need at least an hour to fully appreciate the stories of Ms. Lileth and tour the heritage house. NOTE : no working washroom.
