Beautiful views, great hike back to Lodge from Emerald Pools
May 2021 • Friends
We took this trail back to Zion Lodge from Emerald Pools. There are beautiful views of the valley. It is a moderate hike; no more difficult than Emerald Pools trail.

GREAT COMPANION WITH THE EMERALD POOLS TRAILS
Apr 2021
Very great trail. We did this one along with the Upper and Lower Emerald Pool Trails. Very scenic! Some spots were also shaded which made for a nice option to stop for a drink or a snack.

Has my favorite view point in Zion

Great hike! There are terrific views of mountains, trees, and the river, so you get to see a little bit of everything. It isn't too strenuous so just about anyone can do it. It meets the Emerald Pools at the end, which you can take on the way back and end up at the Lodge shuttle stop.

Moderate hike with great views!
Jun 2020 • Family
This hike was not easy, rather moderate. However, for every part that requires more effort you will have a stretch of easy hiking. The trail is narrow with one side having a steep drop; do not do this if you are very afraid of heights. If you are going to continue to the emerald pools make sure you have plenty of water; you could get dizzy due to the higher altitude. If you have knee problems you could do the kayenta trail, but don't continue to the upper pools.

Relatively easy 2 mile trail to Zion's Emerald Pools – miniature oases nestled in the impressive cliffs of Zion.

Family Friendly Trial
Dec 2019 • Family
Very easy and beautiful hike to do with small children. The hike was roughly 3 hours round-trip. The kids really enjoyed the Upper Emerald Pool at the end of the trial. Lots of photogenic spots along the trial.

Strenuous but spectacular rewards
Dec 2019
Since we have 2 young kids (11 & 5) we wanted to do the Lower Emerald Pool hike. However, when we went (late December) the Lower Emerald Pool trail was closed. We braved the strenuous hike warnings and set out on the Kayenta trail from the Grotto to the Upper Emerald Pool (2.6 miles RT). But boy, were we rewarded! The views of the river below and the canyon are great. The trail is certainly not for everyone as it is mostly rather steep and there are drop offs - so be careful. The last 0.3 mile is the most treacherous. But at the end you will be rewarded with a spectacular waterfall bounded by high canyon walls above a serene pool (it even had a layer of ice on top). Was one of the highlights of our trip.

Sublime Zion Canyon Views and Pools
Nov 2019
For us baby boomers, the Kayenta trail is moderately strenuous and leads in the end to the Emerald Pools (upper Emerald Pool being the final destination). It leaves from the Grotto Shuttle stop in the Zion Canyon. The hike offers tremendously magnificent views of the Zion Canyon and some great photo opportunities, as hopefully evidenced by the attached photographs. It gets a bit hot even on a sunny November day so I would very much recommend to dress in layers and bring enough water. Also decent hiking shoes are recommended - certainly not flip flops or alike.

When we were there, this was the only available route to the Emerald pools with the Lower Emerald Pool trail from the Zion Lodge being closed off.

The trail is well marked and it’s an easy hike. It didn’t take us very long and we were able to see deer by the river, cactus growing and very cool trees . We were there in October and the path was not busy .

This was a very interesting and spectacular walk. Rather easy to walk trail. Interesting shapes of the mountain side along the way.
