We hiked on the trail down to Dark Hollow Falls. We were staying at Big Meadows Lodge so it was close by. Beautiful hike beside the river flowing down. Stopped many time to set and listen to the peaceful sounds. Not a hard hike but does...More

Well it's a mild intensity hike, fun and easily doable even in the rain, and gorgeous waterfall that's perfect for bathing or scaling, or sitting to relax. The wildlife is so socialized to humans that they basically ignore you. Picked up an excellent crooked walking...More

Dark Hollow Falls is the closest waterfall to Skyline Drive. This makes it very popular and very crowded. Even though there is a fair size parking area (located at milepost 50.7 on Skyline Drive) it can become completely full and there may be difficulty finding...More

Nice easy hike with kids age 9&12. A little more difficult coming back up but we loved the falls. Definitely worth the stop!!

What an amazing hike. We left from Big Meadow Lodge and hiked down to the Falls. Spectacular. A little rocky but fairly easy hike. We continued on to Rose River Falls which was difficult (I will review separately). Would definitely recommend this.

Easy going down, strenuous going up. The falls are fairly iconic and as a result the crowds are fairly large. Wasn't easy to get a pic without a limb or selfie-taker in the way. All that said, a must-see/do hike.

We went down to the falls about 5 pm on a Sunday in June and it was crowded. Nice little pools to step into the ice cold water -- bring water shoes and towels and possibly change of clothes ;)

This was our second of hike of the day with four young children ages 12, 10, 6 and 5 and it’s one of the shortest hikes to a waterfall in Shenandoah National Park. We stopped in the nearby Visitor Center for a map and to...More

There were plenty of families hiking, but there are several sections of steep steps, so it would depend on the hiking level of the children. If they aren’t used to hiking, it would be best to choose an easier hike.
