- Roger C2 contributionsDining on the south rim of the grand canyonWhen you go to the south rim, you will not only get awe inspiring views of God's handiwork, but you will also meet some great people. We had some servers at the fred Harvey restaurants that really stood out. Lily helped us at the tavern. She is a very hard worker. I wanted to tell her to take five, but I could not catch up to her. Helpful, friendly, polite even under fire. The fred Harvey Cafe has a real gem by the name of Phoenix. He immediately put us at ease and attended to us in a unique manner that we thoroughly enjoyed.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 21, 2023
- Lee HBisbee, Arizona3 contributionsIt never grows old or ceases to take your breath away! This was our 9th visit to one of the most extraordinary places on earth. The views can only truly be appreciated in person. Neither picture nor film can capture the grandeur of the experience. We will continue to return in the future as the experience never grows old. Phrases like "breathtaking", "spectacular" and "mind-blowing" barely express the actual experience.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 5, 2023
- linsocworkWilliamstown, New Jersey1 contribution"See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet " (or whatever you drive.)Went to visit my grandfather who worked at the Bright Angel Lodge back around 1957. They wouldn't let me take a donkey ride in the canyon because I was too young. But I did walk quite a ways down. What a beautiful sight. And the people were so nice. It's surely one of those places in the U.S. that you need to visit. While you're out that way, don't miss Yellowstone, Petrified Forest and Bryce Canyon.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 29, 2024
- RPS117Rochester, Michigan29 contributionsGreat Home Base For Grand Canyon VisitWe enjoyed our visit to the town. It is very conveniently located just a short trip from the South Park Entrance. We arrived in the afternoon and were still able to spend three to four hours in the park having dinner and sight-seeing. The Village is a great location to allow us to get up the next morning, have a bite to eat and still get to our 9:30 AM bike tour with plenty of time to spare.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 28, 2024
- Have Camera, Will TravelSouth Bend, Indiana3,714 contributionsWander around a bitWe stayed at the El Tovar, so we wandered the area a bit over a couple of days. There are excellent views. It is a bit busy at all times. A few of the lodges could use a little TLC and a few are pretty dated looking, architecture wise. The Thunderbird is downright ugly. They could use some better food options. El Tovar is cool and we enjoyed walking around Bright Angle Lodge. Go check out the Train Station too.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 2, 2024

We are in the Grand Canyon Village just west called the Yavapai Point. You can actually see the Colorado River from this point. Extremely beautiful viewpoints for photography and they do have a geology museum there.Visited April 2024Traveled on businessWritten May 9, 2024
- TravelBug2224 contributionsPerfect location but at a price.Just returned from a 12 day road trip with 2nights at Maswik Lodge in Grand Canyon Village. Paid more than staying in Tusayan for the location but you need to get up early or late to appreciate the canyon in the peace and quiet as it’s unsurprisingly busy, especially when the train arrives! Most hotel accom is walkable to the rim or the free shuttle bus stops outside. One shuttle goes East the other West and runs all day from dawn til dusk. You can hop on and hop off as you like. If you are not hiking into the canyon and just doing the South Rim 2 days is ample to get to all the lookouts. Good dinner choices sadly lacking. Bus drivers could do with being more informative.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 14, 2024

Grand Canyon General Store was a good stop for Grand Canyon merchandise as a complete grocery store. With COVID and the reduction in options to eat, the General Store helped to fill that void. Visiting is their "off season" leaves plenty of room to roam without being elbow to elbow. Love the village and the rim walk. If visiting in their "off season" be sure to check bus schedules, many of them shut down which forces you to drive from hotel further away; and parking in the village even in the "off season" is a project in itself.

Spectacular views and scenery. We booked a bus tour that was awaiting our arrival once the train reached the north rim and the village. We bought a tour that included a buffet lunch (Santa fe fiesta) which was very good. Back onto the bus and our guide, Tom, was extremely informative and knowledgeable. He truly loves his job and living in the Village, along with about 1700 others. It’s truly a community with some people whom have been here for 39 years. Tom picked the best places to stop, got out with us and took time to answer any questions about the Canyon and all its glory. The tour was about 2-1/2 hours including lunch.

Thoroughly enjoyed our day here, arrived by train, left by road, long queues of traffic coming in when we left early evening. Village was busy but not overly crowded and when we walked along the rim trail it thinned out a bit.
Buildings blend into the area and don’t detract from the look of the village. Best thing of course is the view of the canyon itself, plenty of spots to get that ever important photo.
Watch out for the cheeky squirrels, especially if you have food, they tried to get into my bag which I had sat down for a minute.
One of the highlights of my US trip.

Disney must have taken their inspiration for designing rocks from here.
The chalets are well-equipped and have a nice bathroom.
The restaurant is quiet, it has a nice choice of food in buffet-form for the main course. Also plenty of options for vegetarians!
The staff are very nice to deal with. There is good wifi in the main building and ny the swimming pools, no wifi or cell coverage in the chalets.
When entering the Canyon Park Reserve you still have quite a drive before you will reach the location. We ended up putting the gps location of the facility in our navigation.
There is almost no cell coverage in the area.
We spotted giraff, monkeys, ostrich, springbok.

I’m on a two week road trip currently, I normally don’t leave reviews but I felt like I needed to for this place. I’m staying in Canyon village currently, and I went to take a shower. Turns out, the shower house is a 15 minute walk away from where I'm located at and could be 30 minutes depending where you’re staying at in the park. Not only that, you pay 2.50$ for every 5 minutes you’re in the shower. Great, I paid to get in the park, I paid for the RV site, and now I have to pay to take a shower. Oh and also you have to pay for a shuttle if you want to see the Canyon different angles. I’ve stayed in at least 5 national parks so far on my trip and this place is complete trash compared to the others. Overall, overrated, overcrowded, overpriced!

We stayed two nights at the Yavapai Lodge, which was VERY convenient because there is a restaurant/tavern right there as well as a welcome center and the Market/Grocery store. Plus a bus stop right there for the buses that run through the Village. Room was fine, only issue was had to go one building over to get ice because our building's icemaker was broken. No biggie. Also nice because cabin buildings are tucked right into the trees/nature.

This area should be avoided during the weekend and holidays. Parking spots are most often impossible to find. We finally gave up after checking several parking lots quite a number of times, then finally had to give up and move on from there. It would have been nice to see the Village for its historic buildings and views, but it could not be done.

Great trip to the Grand Canyon. We rented a car in Phoenix and drove to Williams, AZ, where we stayed for one night at the Grand Canyon Hotel and Railway. Nice room and good food! In the morning we took the Grand Canyon Railway train the the Grand Canyon. The train was great....very friendly and helpful. We stayed at the Maswik Lodge in the canyon. There too we had a nice room and good food. The Grand Canyon was spectacular, no words to describe it. We used the shuttle system which was so convenient. We returned to Williams by train again, which was so much fun!!

hello,
we are staying in GC Village and have one full day with nothing planned. Could someone please suggest a day itinerary to do on our own? what to do first, second, last? we have a rental car. we can also consider hiking a couple of miles. thanks in advance!!!
Written December 17, 2018
An early morning hike down part of South Kaibab Trail is always an exhilarating way to start the day. Ooh-Aah Point or Cedar Ridge are popular destinations for day-hikers on the trail. Especially in the summer, you want to get your hiking done in the morning. It'll take 1-3hours depending on how far you decide to go. Take the orange shuttle from the visitor center to reach the trailhead. Bring adequate water and maybe some salty snacks.
Besides the views right in the village itself, there are great viewpoints to the west along Hermit Road. During the spring, summer, and winter, you'll use the free shuttle to get to them. In the winter, you'll use your own car. About 3 hours will cover it.
There are also a series of great viewpoints to the easy along Desert View Drive. It is only reachable with your own vehicle. Takes about 3 hours to cover it.

Hello !
I shall stay few days in Las Vegas and my plan is to make a one day trip to the Grand Canyon. However, I have no idea what to visit first. Can you tell me what can I visit ? What are the highlights of the area ? What should I see first ? What can I visit in a one day trip?
Thank you
Written July 17, 2018
Best place for a quick lunch would probably be the Maswik Food Court in the Maswik Lodge area. And you can take the blue shuttle bus line to get back to your car at the main visitor center, you don't have to walk all the way back.

Is there a toll between Las Vegas and Grand Canyon Village?
Written April 26, 2018
Look at a road map or google maps- It is a long, long drive on several different highways between Las vegas Nevada and Grand Canyon Village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. There are no crossings between the new bridge at Hoover Dam on the Black Canyon and Navajo Bridge near Glen Canyon Dam on the Arizona/Utah boirder. You might do better to fly to Phoenix (AZ) or Flagstaff (AZ) and rent a car there. That being said, no matter how you get there, the only toll is the entrance fee to Grand Canyon National Park. Lodgings in the park fill quickly so you may want to check Tusayan, Williams, and Flagstaff.

Would like to know what the weather will be like in June and where we should stay in the area that is not full of tourist? We will have a car and flying into Flagstaff.
Written April 22, 2018
You can't really avoid tourists, it is the Grand Canyon after all. But it is a huge place, so it's not like you'll be packed wall-to-wall. If your concern is not to have too much hustle and bustle as you step out in the morning, then you probably don't want to stay right on the rim at places like Bright Angel Lodge, El Tovar, Thunderbird Lodge. If you stay further back, say at Maswik or Yavapai, it's more quiet. Yes, you can stay very, very far away from the South Rim, but then what's the point in coming?

Are dogs on leash allowed in the park?
Written January 12, 2017
There were lots of people with dogs on leashes when we were there so I'd say the answer is yes. Make sure you have a really good leash because there are a lot of places with no guard rails.

Are there any long term house rentals in Grand Canyon Village AZ
Written December 15, 2016
Hello! A quick question about the Grand Canyon Village. I'm trying to find out if this is the best location to go for someone that has a current foot problem. We can't walk very far, but really want to see the grand canyon. Does the shuttle take you close to the canyon view? ANy help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. THanks!!
Written July 10, 2016
Shuttle will work, but you can get great views from El Tovar area + food + shopping. If you have a limited amount of time, I would do this first - then see if you want to explore and have time for other areas.
