It's amazing here in winter, ride the train in, it's a worthwhile added adventure. Free shuttles to wherever you want to trek to in the village. Crowds are non existent, it's the best time to come.Visited February 2023Traveled with friendsWritten March 1, 2023
- Overseas HikerThe Hague, The Netherlands146 contributionsBeautiful village in National Park StyleThe Grand Canyon Village is excellent: all buildings are in rustic National Park style, there are no traces of all the screaming neon signs that you will see outside of the park borders. When I visited in November, it was not busy at all. As beautiful as the village is, the real attraction is of course the Canyon, and not just the views but especially the hiking possibilities. I have hiked at the canyon floor for 5 days. While that may be too much of a challenge for most people: I would highly recommend to at least hike down at the Bright Angel trail for an hour or so and then return. The experience will be unforgettable.Visited November 2022Traveled soloWritten March 29, 2023
- Bunty8United Kingdom600 contributionsGreat place to visit canyonThoroughly enjoyed our day here, arrived by train, left by road, long queues of traffic coming in when we left early evening. Village was busy but not overly crowded and when we walked along the rim trail it thinned out a bit. Buildings blend into the area and don’t detract from the look of the village. Best thing of course is the view of the canyon itself, plenty of spots to get that ever important photo. Watch out for the cheeky squirrels, especially if you have food, they tried to get into my bag which I had sat down for a minute. One of the highlights of my US trip.Visited May 2023Written July 2, 2023

The chalets are well-equipped and have a nice bathroom. The restaurant is quiet, it has a nice choice of food in buffet-form for the main course. Also plenty of options for vegetarians! The staff are very nice to deal with. There is good wifi in the main building and ny the swimming pools, no wifi or cell coverage in the chalets. When entering the Canyon Park Reserve you still have quite a drive before you will reach the location. We ended up putting the gps location of the facility in our navigation. - Roger C2 contributionsDining on the south rim of the grand canyonWhen you go to the south rim, you will not only get awe inspiring views of God's handiwork, but you will also meet some great people. We had some servers at the fred Harvey restaurants that really stood out. Lily helped us at the tavern. She is a very hard worker. I wanted to tell her to take five, but I could not catch up to her. Helpful, friendly, polite even under fire. The fred Harvey Cafe has a real gem by the name of Phoenix. He immediately put us at ease and attended to us in a unique manner that we thoroughly enjoyed.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 21, 2023

It’s really cool to see this area around the Grand Canyon. There is a lot to see and do here. Restaurants are on the expensive side, but that should be expected.

We went there last year on an organised tour ( we did the regular paved trail of Mater point). This year we returned to walk all the canyon from the Hermit point to the south ( along the trail natural or paved )...a long walk of more of 7 hours... The view is better than only the shuttle and the view point....you have to be in pretty good shape to do that but you can have what you need at the village before...a shuttle leave from the village. There is restaurants, hotel and shops.

A very nice place. Sceneries are a blast. There are too many folks with cars. Ample parking should be provided to get even more tourists.

Really just a grouping of hotels and the train station. There are better things to see and do in the park.

An early morning hike down part of South Kaibab Trail is always an exhilarating way to start the day. Ooh-Aah Point or Cedar Ridge are popular destinations for day-hikers on the trail. Especially in the summer, you want to get your hiking done in the morning. It'll take 1-3hours depending on how far you decide to go. Take the orange shuttle from the visitor center to reach the trailhead. Bring adequate water and maybe some salty snacks.
Besides the views right in the village itself, there are great viewpoints to the west along Hermit Road. During the spring, summer, and winter, you'll use the free shuttle to get to them. In the winter, you'll use your own car. About 3 hours will cover it.
There are also a series of great viewpoints to the easy along Desert View Drive. It is only reachable with your own vehicle. Takes about 3 hours to cover it.

Hello !
I shall stay few days in Las Vegas and my plan is to make a one day trip to the Grand Canyon. However, I have no idea what to visit first. Can you tell me what can I visit ? What are the highlights of the area ? What should I see first ? What can I visit in a one day trip?
Thank you

Best place for a quick lunch would probably be the Maswik Food Court in the Maswik Lodge area. And you can take the blue shuttle bus line to get back to your car at the main visitor center, you don't have to walk all the way back.

Is there a toll between Las Vegas and Grand Canyon Village?
Paul S
Marion1,565 contributions
Look at a road map or google maps- It is a long, long drive on several different highways between Las vegas Nevada and Grand Canyon Village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. There are no crossings between the new bridge at Hoover Dam on the Black Canyon and Navajo Bridge near Glen Canyon Dam on the Arizona/Utah boirder. You might do better to fly to Phoenix (AZ) or Flagstaff (AZ) and rent a car there. That being said, no matter how you get there, the only toll is the entrance fee to Grand Canyon National Park. Lodgings in the park fill quickly so you may want to check Tusayan, Williams, and Flagstaff.

Would like to know what the weather will be like in June and where we should stay in the area that is not full of tourist? We will have a car and flying into Flagstaff.

You can't really avoid tourists, it is the Grand Canyon after all. But it is a huge place, so it's not like you'll be packed wall-to-wall. If your concern is not to have too much hustle and bustle as you step out in the morning, then you probably don't want to stay right on the rim at places like Bright Angel Lodge, El Tovar, Thunderbird Lodge. If you stay further back, say at Maswik or Yavapai, it's more quiet. Yes, you can stay very, very far away from the South Rim, but then what's the point in coming?
I would like to relocate and work in the Grand Canyon village(( city )) --say by. the. end of. this year -- 2018____ how would I go about this ?

Are dogs on leash allowed in the park?

There were lots of people with dogs on leashes when we were there so I'd say the answer is yes. Make sure you have a really good leash because there are a lot of places with no guard rails.

Hello! A quick question about the Grand Canyon Village. I'm trying to find out if this is the best location to go for someone that has a current foot problem. We can't walk very far, but really want to see the grand canyon. Does the shuttle take you close to the canyon view? ANy help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. THanks!!

Shuttle will work, but you can get great views from El Tovar area + food + shopping. If you have a limited amount of time, I would do this first - then see if you want to explore and have time for other areas.
