10 mile round trip, very well marked trail through formations as well as grassland. Mostly level terrain, moderate difficulty. Bring water, especially if its 102 degrees like it was I was there. There other connecting trails if you're not into the full 10 miles.

I think a lot of people mainly do the Door/Window/Notch trails, so it was nice to hike a couple miles on the Castle Trail and escape that. We did not do the entire trail, as it was already 5:00 and we were a bit tired...More

We had been taking 7-8 mile walks regularly to prepare for this. On an 88 degree day with 2 water bottles and a camel back, we still only made it from the east trail head to Saddle Pass and then came back through Medicine Root....More

Quite easy for the most part though my pole came in handy once or twice. Remnants of the rains but plank paths helped.

An area that is quite vast yet extremely beautiful even if it resembles a different planet out here. The views are gorgeous no matter what angle they're viewed from. Just goes to show just how fantastic our country's landscape truly is...

Some of the best photos were taken here. Easy trail walk too, that leads to even more picture opportunities.

I took the Castle/Medicine Loop trail. As most folks say it's not like you are going right in the middle of all the huge formations but I really wasn't into all the rock climbing. This hike is flat. I'm not a professional hiker. I was...More

The title should be obvious. Why wouldn't you bring your map on the trails? Because you could be a forgetful idiot like myself or my husband. My husband and I opted to hike the Castle Trail and Medicine Root Trail. We parked the car at...More

We thoroughly enjoyed hiking on the Castle/Medicine Loop trails. There were many incredible views and formations along the way. The trail is easy and flat even though it is quite long. You will want to be sure to carry water with you. We started the...More
