About
Harkening back to the quieter, more intimate Osaka of the 19th century, small food shops and historic souvenir purveyors lie under paper lanterns on each side of the narrow, stone-paved lane.

This narrow, stone-paved lane next to Dotombori Street feels like the great old days of Naniwa very cozy and quaint. While only couple of minutes away from famous night pleasure spot of Shinsaibashi心斎橋 the stone-flagged narrow street exalts a different tune altogether. A more restraint and sober atmosphere here accompanied the old-fashioned cafe, teashops and small temples/shrines. This change is quite an experience in itself. :>
One of the main attractions here is the Mizukake-Fudo Buddhist statute法善寺, where worshippers sprinkle/pour water over 2 statures (left-right, covered in green moss due to the water constantly splashed by visitors) and pray for good fortunes. Another attraction here is the shop Meteo Zenzai, which sells “zenzai”; couples are supposed to share a single portion, and be blessed to live happily ever after. Go try!
We were indeed very marvel to see that there are a few so interesting spots within a small area, sure amazing. While a stroll may take just 30 mins or so to cover the nostalgic neighbourhood I would recommend this area for all.. and the better time for visiting there is in early evening. To round off the visit you can also drop by the nearby Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum or return back to the bright-light big city of the real thriving Osaka...

Love this tiny little street in the middle of busy Dotonbori shopping area. The best time to visit during at time with the colorful lighting. Try not to missed this street since it located in between of shop rows.

Wander around the alleys in this area- you'll feel like you've walked into the past and you'll find some gems. Along the covered walkway there are alleys leading off. The lead into small pockets of old Japan with shrines, temples and quaint little restaurants

This small walkway is filled with ancient charm, seemed like it is untouched for years. Food and cafe and hand made souvenirs for the local and tourists alike. A walk back in time, a walk into something very different from wherever you come from ....
See for yourselves ...... the photos.

The area of Hozenji Yokocho is small, say, 80 meters x 40 meters, but the atmosphere of this area is completely different from the outside.
Also, Hozenji Yokocho is well known for tasty Japanese restaurants such as Wasabi (Kishi-Katsu), Sanpei (Okonomiyaki) and Kamofuku (duck pot). This area in must-visit place for foodies.

Small little shrine surrounded by small and nice little restuarants and bars..
well worth a visit..
Its not too far from the hustle and bustle of Namba station and got a little of the old town atmosphere to it.

This is a peaceful alley way as compared to the busy Dotombori. There are some shops and restaurants here. There is also small temple within the vicinity, which is worth a visit too.
Come here at night as you can see the lanterns and the place lit up.

We stumbled on this shrine after seeing Dotonburi briefly. Dotonburi was so crowded and overwhelming, you can't really enjoy it. We stumbled on this shrine walking back to the train station. It is on a small side street, with the shrine on one end. The street is 80 meters long, and only 3 meters wide. It has a lot of character and solitude vs the chaos of Dotonburi. There are many restaurants there, I think the restaurants on the small side streets cater to locals. Highly recommended if you are in the area anyway. It contrasts so much to Dotonburi, it is hard to believe they are only a few feet apart.

Go in the day as well as night-time if you have the chance. Don't miss the moss-covered statue. There are many good restaurants along this old street. Would recommend visiting this old alley; you'll feel a sense of tranquility and it's a good respite from the city.
