Whilst the exterior of the castle is very impressive, it is a rebuild of its original style. The last Shogun destroyed the castk built by his predecessors and it was rebuilt from Community contributions in the 1930s. Today it is a shell for a museum and has no indications of its structure or military aspects.
It is hard to compare to Himeji or Matsumoto castles which are authentic and withstood centuries of war, earthquake and weather events

Lovely castle, a reconstruction but still very impressive. Beautiful park around the castle and a very relaxing day. A little far to find something to eat but a good experience all round.

I think this is #1 attraction in Osaka. Exterior of the main tower and fortifications are impressive, even though the tower itself is 20th century reconstruction. Not much interesting stuff inside. There are some samurai exhibits on 3rd and 4th floor, very limited. I liked Himeji castle that I visited a few years ago much better.

…it is still a MUST to visit if you are in Osaka. The architecture, while it may be reconstruction (the main issue lots of people online seem to have with it), is beautiful and I found the exhibitions inside really interesting too. Great view from the top too AND it’s free with an ‘Amazing Osaka’ pass as well!

It’s really iconic and beautiful castle. I recommend this is a must visit place and take photographs. If you not interested in history and very specific to Osaka then you can skip going inside the castle and save some money. But if you are interested in history then you can spend sometime there

The Cstle is on top of the mountain. Though there are minivans to bring you up, you still need to walk up a kilometer going inside. For physically challenged, bringing a wheelchair is best. There are no WC rental here. There are a number of coffee shops at the ground level near the playground. The view on top is great, still a short journey to appreciate the castle architecture and plant landscaping.

Everything regarding the castle is worth visiting. Park surrounding the castle, inner circle, garden, rooftop view, nearby restaurants.. I truly believe that Osaka castle is a must if you’re visiting Osaka.
Make sure to check the historical part on lower floors and definitely visit the 8th floor for 360 Osaka overview.

Hello everyone, do you know if there is any way to buy the tickets for the Osaka castle and museum online in order to avoid queuing? If not, do you think we will face massive queues (we will be there on August, 21st)? Thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t worry about buying advance tickets. As others have said, the line moves quickly. The real queue is waiting after you’ve passed the tickets area to go up the elevator.

Are you able to take photos of the castle or grounds without paying the admission fee? Do they accept credit card/Icoca card as a form of payment?

Yes you can access the castle grounds free of charge. That's what I did! But you need to pay for admission into the castle, which might be worth it for the panoramic views.

I have visited the Castle several times and always closes at 5pm so, if you arrive at 4pm you would have enough time. It opens at 9am.

Does the 600 yen cover the whole castle, park, and gardens? What is the Osaka pass?
Lonngren
Busan, South Korea26 contributions
Yes, the 600 yen covers everything. The Osaka pass is a pass that gets you into the main tourist attractions in Osaka for a lot cheaper than if you were to pay at each one of them separately. Worth getting if you're interested in going to at least 3 or 4 of the included sites.

Hi there! I will buy JR PASS to travel in Japan and my question is how can I go to Osaka Castle from KIX airport with JR PASS? Please tell me the easiest and shortest way with the simplest explanations. Thanks in advance :)

Hello Zehra
Yes I would visit the shine while you are there. If you have time visit the restaurants and tourist shops across the park from the castle. It gets busy but there are places to sit.
If you have more time in Osaka you must visit Dotonbori you will have a wonderful food and people experience.
Enjoy yourself in Osaka
