Wu Fen Pu now easy to get to via green line metro

Years ago I found Wufenpu clothing market with great difficulty, and got lost looking for it. This year, it was easy to find because they had extended the green metro line all the way there, which made it easy peasy. As well, the Raohe Night Market is just next door too off the same Songshan metro stop. To get to Wufenpu, you just walk straight from the metro stop exit, and enter into the market which becomes walking ‘streets’ within the block. Stores line both sides of ‘streets’ selling mostly clothing, although there were handbag, backpack, accessories stores. Display space is limited and stock is held mostly inside plastic bags on the floor. So you choose from what is displayed and the clerk rummages through the bags to find one for you. This clothing market is closed Mondays to the public so they can conduct international and local sales in bulk to put orders in. Tourists and locals love to shop here for clothing at excellent prices. There are a few food vendors who wheel carts around selling snacks but not many, as the Raohe food market is just next door anyhow. There is a wonderful park to relax in with a childrens' playground and temple too. Although I didn't need anything, both my friends did so much shopping at such great prices, that they couldn't carry any more. They loved shopping there. The market is so huge that you will not get through all of it in one day. We covered only a small section of the entire market, walking up and down the narrow streets.

Do not bother coming here. Most of the reviews by bloggers are not accurate to begin with, or, the bargain prices are no longer the case. I went with the intention to get some decent clothes but ended up disappointed.

To begin with, 1/3 of the shops do not entertain customers. Secondly, almost all products are not price tagged. Those that are, are usually miserable outfits and are priced cheap. These would be displayed at the entrance to the shop. There are no sizing options in most instances.

The prices they quoted to me (i am a Asian who speaks mandarin well) are definitely not any cheaper than what a typical retailer in Ximen would charge. Remember, some of the products they carry may have little defects (for eg. spelling on the prints) and its not worth it at all.

I walked through the entire place and can tell you that only 40% of the retailers has trendy products . Of that ..perhaps half of them entertain walk-ins.

You will be wasting your time there.

Tip 1: most of the shops do not have a fitting/changing room for you
to try on the clothes.

Tip 2: most of the shops sell 'free-size' clothes which means there
are no small, medium or large. This is because most of the girls in
Taiwan are very tiny so the clothing stores here do not sell other
sizes except one size according to most

Tip 3: it is very difficult to find a toilet here, even if you found
it, its squatting toilet. Look up in the air and you will find the
toilet sign and follow the sign.

Tip 4: most of the shops sell young adult clothing so if you are
after branded or good quality stuff, Please do not visit.

Tip 5: there are also a few shops that sell drinks and food.

Tip 6: it takes at least 2-3 hours to finish your shopping here so
plan your day trip well.

Closest MRT is MRT Houshanpi Station, you can refer to the map and walk.

Both girls and guys can find what they want here - they have many shops that sell clothes and accessories. Most of the clothes for women range between 150 - 400 NTD for those racks that are displayed outside, very very cheap but these are usually (but not necessarily) out-of-season products or slightly defected. Don't be put off though, because if you take the time to sift through the racks you can find very very good deals, and some of my best-loved loots are from the outside racks.

The clothes inside the stores are usually a bit pricier, 300 NTD and above BUT still considered VERY affordable for nice clothing :) Material wise you would have to make personal judgments.

The men's clothing are naturally more expensive but again, still cheaper than you would find outside. Just have to look around for clothes that you like, but when we travelled we paid on average about <17 SGD/14 USD (about 400 NTD) PER PIECE for 1 pair of bermudas, 2 shirts, and 1 t-shirt. See about that price or even lesser, because after that we didn't manage to find any better deal than that.

Also get your travel companions to see if they like anything from the same store because you would have more leverage when bargaining. Overall I greatly enjoyed shopping here because there were good finds, you can spend about half a day/full day (depending on how much you want to shop). It takes time to look through though.

*IMPORTANT* Note that it opens at 2PM, some stores begin opening at 1PM so no frets if you g o around that timing. But don't go in the morning though, cos the stores probably won't be open yet.

*EXTRA*
Nearest toilet is in a temple that is located inside the WFP Commercial District. Ask the shopkeepers and they should tell you.

There's also this amazing braised meat rice franchise (?) store there, it's available all throughout Taiwan but there's one super nearby Wu Fen Pu too. It's called -Formosa Chang | Hu Xu Zhang Lu Rou Fan- and the exact address is: Wu Fen pu Commercial district, walk 5mins. 533 Youyi Rd TPE.

It's along the road towards WFP, it's the first store right after crossing the traffic light at the junction and it sits in that corner. Somehow you can't miss it cos' there's always people inside. Try it, it's crazy affordable for an entire meal with soup and stuff, less than 10 SGD/ 8 USD and is so insanely delicious. To me anyway.

Happy shopping!!!

Take the MRT on the blue Bannan line towards the Nangang Exibition Center and get off at Houshanpi. When you exit to street level you will see a street sign post with directions to the Wufenpu garment area as well as the Roche night market. Follow the sign directions for 100 meters and you have arrived when you notice alleys on you right, lined with shops. Get ready for a couple of hours of serious clothes shopping. It is an outdoor area with most of it covered and there has got to be several hundred shops selling everyday fashion. I did not notice any designer clothes but still nice designs at very reasonable fixed prices. Tops and pants for as low as 150NT$. Shoes starting at 200 NT$. There are a few eating stalls at the north end. You may need to buy suitcase to bring home all the stuff you get here.

Cheap clothings (NT$300), footwear (NT$400), bags etc etc .. Too many to list. You can find Korean and Japanese style of clothings there too. I would say it is a ladies' heaven!! Basically if you are looking for cheap clothing and lots & lots of choices.. you can spend the whole evening at Wu Fen Pu.

Good to go but even if you missed, you can still find similar clothings in other night markets.

Went to Wufenpu on a Friday afternoon roughly about 2pm. It is located at Hou Shan Pi Metro station. We went to Formaso Chang for lunch before proceeding to the Wufenpu and then went to Raohe Night Market (which I managed to get a pair of shoes for NT90!!) after that.

Although it is a typhoon day (impending typhoon announcements), there are still many many shops opened. We walked for about 3-4 hours. However, remember to have your thirst quenched before going in! It is super difficult to find a drink stall!! As for toilet, we only managed to found one at a park, located at the basement (which is the carpark). The toilet is actually above our expectations. We thought it will be quite dirty and smelly but it is actually not.

As for the shops there, it is a like a treasure hunt. You have to try to find treasures. I only found those on the racks outside to be worth the price, except those that has fixed price for whole shop. Try to know a gauge on the price you would buy for the items as it will help a lot! The items are kinda repetitive but price varies. And there are incidents which we really managed to find treasures! We managed to get dresses at NT200 and my friend managed to get a cardigan at NT100! :) The racks outside are usually out of season or slight defects. But the defects are really super duper slight! But you can get it at a super duper discounted price!! So worth it! So do not give it a miss!

If you have the time, do visit Wufenpu. Else, you can give it a miss since you can only find good bargains in night markets~

Hi everyone, we recently went to Taipei for vacation and went to "wu fen pu" the wholesale market and came across an outlet named "Base station". The staffs were good with words but don't get cheated by them because they will rush you to buy their clothing, and they will not give you the size you asked for!!! If need to purchase, do check and check before paying and stepping out of the store as they will switch the size of your clothings even after you checked before purchasing!! The price they quote for their clothing are extremely expensive too. Be very careful when purchasing stuffs from them or even better... don't bother patronising them.

tons of wholesale clothing shops -- but guess what? you'll have to dig, dig, and dig to find good deals and trendy items. After a while, all the stores start to look the same. A lot of the clothes are not even cute or on-trend (Momma-style clothes), and you can't try anything on! the savings here is not even that big unless you buy larger amounts. not a pleasant shopping experience either. wholesale shopping environment is not about pleasing decor, it's about price --but the prices are not overly that great! only a tad lower than night markets if youre buying a single item. Not worth the digging.

My friends who shop here find cute stuff -- but they live here and have tons of time to browse the stalls for gems. If you're a visitor -- forget it. I'd recommend you rather shop the night markets, XiMen, ShiDa areas for a better edited selection of trendy clothes in a more fun environment.

Similar to the Bugis Street you see in Singapore except that it is a much bigger place and has more stalls selling wholesale apparels. Some shops might state a high price for their clothings, so it's best to walk around first, before deciding on whether to purchase them or not. If you have decided to buy them, try to ask for discount! The more you buy from them, the more discount you can get!

I visited Taipei, Taiwan from 30 March to 4 April 2014. The most unpleasant experience I had was buying some fruits from the fruit seller on cart on the street at Wu Fen Pu. My daughter choose 2 small wax apples and I choose a small whole pineapple. I was shocked when they asked me to pay TWD430/-, this is really extremely expensive. This is equivalent to Singapore dollars $18/. In Singapore, I probably pay $4 in total.

So this is to caution all who would like to visit Taiwan, to be very careful when buying fruits from a street vendor. Ask how much they charge before they cut the fruits, so that you can reject if you think it is too expensive.
