We visited this high altitude, shallow, fresh water lake near the Dhauladhar range approximately 9 km from Dharamsala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh last year. Both my wife and I drove down to this lake. Very serene. Very photogenic. Crystal clear water

It is one of the untouched place of Dharamshala. To reach Kareri Lake, one has to first reach Ghera Village which is 20 Km from Dharamshala. You can hire a taxi to reach there. It is 14km long trek which includes a lots of stairs...More

Kareri lake is a good getaway in himalayas offering a magnificient view of Himalayas. The place is seldom visited by travel and offer beautiful landscape. If in Dharamshala and wondering what to do Visit Kareri lake.

Good for Long Hike...but do remember this is NOT a Fresh water lake...though it is sourced from Glaciers...but since the outflow of lake is somewhat restricted...so there are plenty of micro organisms and bacteria type of (easy to locate if seen with attention)...even the shops...More

January is better but trekking becomes very difficult / may be closed at times of heavy snowfall
