About
Jao Ho Street has become a secondary road and the business has also declined. Therefore, the government set up a night market in 1987. It is the second tourist night market in Taipei.

There is a mix of food and merchandise vendors. Lots of smells and colours . We tried a few dishes but didn’t really come away in awe. Nothing we hadnt seen or sampled in other markets.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 22, 2023
- luxuryvoyageSwitzerland4,015 contributionssmall night market- focus on food stallsA smaller night market and not as famous as other tourist night markets, but authentic and frequented mostly by locals. The focus is on food stalls. Our favorite was a type of crepe filled with vegetables (vegetarian) and freshly made on the stove top and also very cheap. This stand was unique and stood out from the rest of the offer, which was partly franchising and could be found at all night markets in Taiwan. A visit is worthwhile in any case. We took a cab from the hotel to the market, but for the return trip it was quite difficult to get a cab. But there are also local buses that leave near the market.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 23, 2023
- Abovetheclouds2,321 contributionsNice market. I preferred this to Shilin. Easier to navigate and less crowded. Nicer atmosphere too.Shilin is apparently the main one and biggest one, but I preferred this. This is one of the oldest night markets I believe in Taipei. Raohe Street Night Market had a nicer atmosphere, it was less crowded and there was more variety of food to feast your eyes on. By variety I don't mean more stalls but more options. Shilin became a little repetitive. Easier to navigate and not as big as Shilin. Vendors are very friendly and nice. If you are Muslim like me or vegetarian, make it clear as a lot of the items contain pork. Go with an empty stomach and small change! Shilin had a lot of clothing stalls as well and places where you could play games. Here there were a few places you could play games and shops where you can buy gifts. I went around 19:30 on a Wednesday evening. I believe weekends are really packed. Walk, eat and enjoy. Taiwan is very safe but as you are tightly packed with loads of people, like anywhere just mind your bag. Clean.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 1, 2023

The black pepper beef buns are the most popular, with long queues that go pretty quickly. The buns cost $60 each and are delish. You should also try stinky tofu, shaved peanut ice cream, sesame oil chicken and oyster vermicelliVisited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 13, 2023
- merismerSingapore, Singapore570 contributionsJam PackedPacked shoulder to shoulder on a Saturday night. If you’re there for the night market vibes and complete lack of personal space, this is the place for you. Having said that, food is alright but the darts and fishing games stalls are double/four times the price at Shilin. Good thing: a row of taxis awaits at the starting entrance after a night of walking.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 9, 2023
- SarahKuala Lumpur, Malaysia50 contributionsPeople-watchingBefore we went to Taipei, i asked myself 'if i were to only choose 1 night market, which one will i choose?'. I have read lots of blogs and reviews, and finally we went to this Raohe night market. another top night market on the list was Shilin's. People were saying that Shilin is more touristy and Raohe is more for the locals. I could not make any comments on that as i've only been to Raohe. we tried taro ball, and it's suprisingly yummy!! very cheap of 10-12 balls for 50NTD. it's crispy outside and soft and chewy inside.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 14, 2024

Must try the pepper buns - First stall near the entrance to the night market - you cannot miss it - long queue always . A good market to try the street foodVisited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 28, 2024
- Traveling AmmoniteHeidelberg, Germany349 contributionsA delightful attack on the sensesThe Raohe Street Night Market is the most popular in Taipei, so it will always be crowded and hectic. However, that's part of the charm. It's like impulse buying, but with food. You might have your faves, but for folks unfamiliar with it, it is such a fun experience walking along the long street of stalls and impulse buying what looked delicious. For me, that was the beef cubes, squid, and dumplings. There will definitely be something for everyone. I've never had a miss here. You can also play games and win prizes and buy clothes in between bites. We found a few gems and souvenirs here and there. We took the MRT to Songshan station. From there, just follow the signs (and the people)!Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 4, 2024

I imagine it gets really packed on weekends. We had the famous pepper buns that are at the beginning of the market. The line wasn’t bad and they were delicious. We sampled a number of other dishes - most were very good although some were a little plain. Lots of options though. Half the fun is the experience- it’s a high energy place with lots going on. We took a nonstop subway train from Taipe station - very easy and quick. The Ciyou Temple is near the entrance to the market and is worth a quick visit. I would rate this a “must see” for Taipei.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 15, 2024
- Mark Y8 contributionsRaohe Night MarketRaohe Night Market is a must-see for Taiwan tourists. Arrive early at 5 PM to get ahead of the crowd. If you see a long queue to a food stall, trust that the food is worth the wait. Although the street is a bit shorter compared to Shilin, it still offers great selections to suit every person’s taste.”Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 4, 2024

Raohe Street Night Market is definitely one of the biggest and most famous night markets in Taipei, Taiwan. There is a great variety of street food from authenticity to fusion and tradition to modern.
The most popular, must-eat foods are Pepper pastries, the Braised Pork Chops in Chinese Medicine Soup, the Mochi with Peanut & Sesame Powder and the Fried Taro Ball with Salted Egg Yolk.
My favorite was the pepper pastries, which is the first stand located right at the entrance of the night market with a long line all the time. The paper pastries are covered with a crispy pocket bread, filled with juicy pork patty infused with black pepper and other spices.
Overall, It’s totally worth a visit to Raohe Street Night Market and the transportation is also convenient by MRT.

We find this night market better than Shilin night market. Tried many food, milk tea, snacks etc here. At the entrance, there was a stall selling pepper pork pie that had a very long queue. We bought some and it was nice.

Great place to experience a night market. To be fair, this was the only night market I went to so cannot compare to the many others Taipei has to offer but had a great time here. Went via MRT (Songshan station). There are signs for the Raohe Night Market from the station so its easy to find and once you get out of the station, you will see lots of people making their way to it. You can't miss it. It's basically one long street with street vendors and shops. I went primarily to eat and was not disappointed. I tried a lot of things but I think the fun part of the night market is you can sample all kinds of Taiwanese (and some not so Taiwanese) foods for not a lot of money. Many places only had Chinese menus but most are making the food right in front of you so you can kind of tell what they are making and just point to what you want if you don't speak Chinese. The people working at these vendors were generally very friendly so don't feel intimidated when ordering. It can get very crowded so just be prepared for that. Highly recommended.

Located next to an attractive temple, very ornate and well worth a look in. Supposed to sell the best pork pepper bun for $60 Good if you like pork, pepper and bread. Other types of tidbits and foodstuffs also available, freshly cooked or made etc. A few games stalls too. May struggle to find a parking space.

Raohe night market has a great atmosphere with food stalls with a huge range of delicious street food - sausages, cuttlefish, torched beef cubes, pepper beef buns, stinky tofu, oyster omelets ,bubble tea and so much more. There are small eateries along the streets as well.
The pepper beef buns is the first stall and are worth the wait in the queue. These were what we especially wanted to taste. If feeling adventurous , stinky tofu is a must try.
The market is close to the station and is a must do in Taipei.

Look for booths with lines as they are often the best choices and if you want something, get it because it is hard to turn back. The foot traffic goes one direction and there are spots to wait for food or spaces between stalls to pull a u turn, but we felt everyone pushes forward looking for their food. Highlights for us were the fried pork buns, deep fried custard egg balls and fried boneless pork ribs amongst many other solid options.
About halfway through the street market you can exit and check out the rainbow bridge or take a quick break at the end near the temple. The street market feels cleaner than Shilin as there are many garbage bags to throw away your food wrappers/packages on your way to your next snack. In addition to the food there are many affordable shops to buy knick knacks and clothes.

We went for a wander here one night. It was fine, but we didn't love it. It's a fairly small night market and we walked through it pretty quickly. There is lots of street food and some cheap plastic junk to buy but that was about it. The most interesting part of this night market is the very ornate temple near the entrance.

What time does Raohe Street Night Market close? Google says 11PM, but I saw some posts saying past midnight? Thanks

The night market closes when the customer go home and the vendors shut up shop. Clasing times vary.

Food in Taiwan overall will not break your wallet, however, really depending what you buy. The majority is at a good price. Most of the food in night market is affordable and good eat for a local and tourist.

Hi Tripadvisers.
We intend to make a day trip to Jiufen in early December. We will leave Jiufen from Ruifan TRN Station by train heading back to Taipei Main Station. How do I get from Taipei Main Station to Raohe Street Night Market?
Or can I take a direct train from Ruifan TRN Station to Raohe Night Mkt? Is Raohe Night Mkt. opened by 6pm?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Does anyone know if Raohe market has the game stalls like at Shilin market? Esp those with darts and guns to shoot at balloons.

I think they do, but they change every month, so you have to go there to check.
Have fun,

Hi, I like to check if cash is still accepted in raohe market? Because I understand cashless payment via mobile has been quite a common sight in market these days. Thanks

I’m going to be in Taipei for a short period of time between 8:30am to 4:00pm. Is Raohe market a good place to go to get street food within this time span or is there another location that’s better? I be traveling using the MRT and do no speak the local language.

Taipei 101 is a viable option for the time that you mentioned - they have an extensive food court in the basement.
