This offers the best view of Sun Moon Lake in our opinion. Period. Nothing comes close. We did the long climb all the way from the pier before realizing the round island bus goes there too. (The hike is nice actually.. good exercise and scenery...More

This is less of a temple or place of worship but a tower with views surrounding it and a nice little climb. If you have plenty of time to kill and want to avoid the crowd, this place is good for a stroll and little...More

Not hard to get to the top of the tower. Magnificent view of Sun Moon Lake from the top of the tower. I was told that when I look down from the tower, I would see part of the lake looked like the sun, and...More

An interesting pagoda around Sun Moon Lake. Got by the round -the-lake shuttle bus and then went about 900 metres on foot. Nice views. If you go from the nearest pier (by ferry), you have to walk a steep hill up for about 1 hour.

You have to climb 600 comfortable stairs to reach Pagoda area and then stairs inside the pagoda to reach top. Excellent lake views. Beautiful bldg.

This was one of our highlights of Sun Moon Lake. There is a small car park (holds about 20 cars and no large vehicles allowed) from which a path meanders uphill through a small wooded area. Whilst there are a largish number of steps to...More

This one is a bit of a hike. It takes a while to get up there, but once you get to the top you pretty much have the palace to yourself and it is stunning. Amazing views from the top.

Definitely worth the walk uphill to get to. Beautiful architecture and commanding views of the surrounding area. Amazing that Chiang Kai-Shek had it built as a tribute to his mother.

Quite a hike from the parking lot area or roadway, up a steep path/hill with many stairs to climb. From top area you have good views of Sun Moon Lake and the surroundings. The pagoda at the time was closed off for renovations (don't know...More
