This little town is all about the train and the bananas. Take a walk or even rent a bike to get around town and try local treats.

It is named “old street “. But I didn’t find nothing old. The street itself is just a shopping street that you can find everywhere.

If you are here just to see the train station, I would highly tell you not to waste your time. It is just a tiny train station, that's all. But if you are looking for good traditional food, here might be the place. My guide recommended us this place called 峰 古早味. We loved it, the food was simple but so flavourful. They serve ala carte and also set lunches at very affordable prices. The shop has a very local feel and I really love the simplicity of it. You can also explore the old streets looking for somemore good eats and you might bump into an even better one.

Note: I enjoy eating animal internal organs. The shop I mentioned above serve those too, so don't go forcing yourself to eat it if you are not ready.

Is quite "commericalised" whereby all stalls selling almost the same products Banana handmade roll which I try quite nice. Bought 3 boxes back. Nothing much to walk around so I settled down for a bowl of beef noodles soup & cold century egg which surprise me as taste quite awesome. The stall name is 湘集Dumpling & Beef Noodles Stall. Just a walking distance away from the station. Red signboard. Do try. I believe the other food taste nice too.

Very nice place to visit, with many old shops offering flavors of the locality. The old street evoke the old charms of yesteryear, as the old town still exists seemingly unchanged. We had a short time here but managed to visit Jiji train station. One of the many attractions of Jiji old Street, the wooden facade of JiJi train station still retain the charm of the old Japanese station, transporting one back in time instantly!

The scenic Sun Moon Lake and Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village are nearby to make the visit worthwhile!

Our guide-driver brought us here, en-route to Sun Moon Lake.

We rented a bicycle for our family of 5 for NTD500 and we cycled to the various recommended places of interest. Starting from Jiji Train Station (集集火车站), we cycled to Ming Xin Shu Yuan (明新书院), Wu Chang Gong (武昌宫) and Da Zhang Shu (大樟树). We were given a map to follow. The cycling would be more fun and less tiring if all of us could cycle on individual bicycle.

At Wu Chang Gong, there is a semi-collapsed temple building as a result of the 921 Earthquake that happened on 21/9/1999.

There are more places to visit but we were to tired to proceed (it's not easy to be cycling the 5 seaters quartet-wheels-cycle!).

Our guide told us that Ji Ji used to be a rather busy town because anyone who wanted to go to Sun Moon Lake needed to pass by this town. But with a new road built, most visitor will skip this town.

We had lunch at Feng Gu Zao Wei (峰古早味), a pretty decent place that serves delicious local food like minced meat rice/noodle and meatball soup among others.

If you have Checheng station on your tour itinerary, then, I suggest to take the train from here to get there. The kids enjoy train rides.

This place that was affected by the 1999 JiJi earthquake (which was one of Taiwan's biggest) there are many areas where the mark of this earthquake can be seen. As you drive towards Jiji, the round is very scenic. The trees along the road former a very nice arch. The mountain views are also very scenic.

The train station itself is very nostalgic. The train ride to Checheng is scenic and fun for the kids. As train frequencies are about 20 to 30mins apart, while waiting for the train, there are other things to see. The Wuchang Earthquake temple is a short drive while there is a small park which is also a military museum where old war planes and tanks can be seen.

Jiji is a small town and the life here is unsophisticated. The best method to travel around Jiji is by a bicycle. Take a photo of the map of the town and then you can enjoy a relaxing day here. You can see a diversity of attractions, e.g. souvenir shops near the train station, cultivated land, temples, vendor's stalls selling different snacks etc.

We were taken here as part of our grand tour of Taiwan and it did give us an idea of life in a smaller town. The big draw is the bananas ... seems you can have anything you can think of relating to bananas ... ice cream was good. Then the amazing falling down temple which was left as a memorial to the many people who died in the 1999 earthquake. (Great good value tea available to buy in the adjoining market) Everywhere you go there are bicycles and scooters for hire ... enough two wheeled machines seemingly for the entire world - there are so many. The railway station is very twee with photo opportunities at every corner. And if you really have nothing better to do go to the museum opposite the station to see the moss growing stone, the two headed turtle and many other very bizarre exhibits

This small town is famous for its banana production, egg roll, train station and cycling activities. You can get a cycling map from the visitor centre and rent a bicycle from any of the shops around. There is a designated area for cycling. Thus it is safe from bigger vehicles on the road. When I was there, the sun was scorching hot. Thus, we did not go cycling.
