Wouldn’t bother, waste of time, much more to see in South East Asia. Don’t know how this is the main thing to do in Uluwatu. Ticketing service was a shambles, herded like sheep. It was too hot for this and healthy and safety gone wrong all over. Too crowded. We also paid for the 6 show and we had to go to the 7;00 show, because they had filled the earlier one. Even though are ticket was for the earlier one, which in all honesty they wouldn’t of known which one we even went to, after we entered the 7;00 one we realised this. Wish we would of just jumped in the 6 queue and ignored them, there response at the ticket desk was “sorry”
So we then had to sit around for an hour doing nothing. Wasted our evening. The show was too long, as not much happened.
The best part was the fire and it lasted about as long as I piss.

Hi Laura, Thank you very much for taking the time to come to Uluwatu Temple and watch the Kecak Dance performance. We strongly advise all guests who want to watch the Kecak Dance performance to reserve tickets in advance. Because we have limited space while there are so many enthusiastic guests to watch the Kecak Dance performance, tickets can be reserved via KecakDanceBali>com. If you show up late and there is a second show on that day, you will automatically be entered for the second show. For the second show, we don't have it every time. This all depends on requests from guests who want to watch the Kecak Dance performance. So for those who haven't made a reservation at KecakDanceBali>com they will likely get tickets for the second show. If you want to watch the first show or at sunset, we recommend making a reservation in advance via KecakDanceBali>com. We always try to provide the best service, sorry if something is not acceptable. We will fix what we lack.

Never heard so man strange noises, and it all adds to the air of the occasion!
Must-do when in Bali - we sacrificed the Rock Bar for this and my girlfriends said it was very worth doing!!

We loved the spectacle. The cultural experience and a new way of storytelling. The view was amazing. A definite must do when in Uluwatu. Tips - buy tickets online and get there early for best seats. We arrived an hour before and it was already a third full. Best seats are in the direct sunlight - take water and a hat.

Make sure to go early as tickets sell out super quick. I had a guide so we went at around 15:00 when it was quiet and walked around the temple (most people do this). Go early as it is quieter then and you can appreciate the views. This is a separate ticket. The ticket for the dance can't be purchased online or in advance. You need to buy it on the day and the ticket office I think opens around 16:00 but check this as my guide bought it whilst I walked around the temple. Lines form early and every seat is taken. At the time of writing, August 2022, an adult ticket cost IDR 150,000. I am unsure about children. The show starts at 17:45 and ends at 18:45. The theatre area opens just maybe fifteen minutes before 17:00. Again, a line was forming quickly to get in and grab a good seat. First come, first served so if you want a good seat, go early. Having said this the steps as some reviewers have mentioned killed my backside. Take something to sit on. It hurt. Plus there isn't much room to move your legs. If you sit right at the top, just be mindful that it will take a bit longer to get out. Everyone rushes out at the end, looking for their transport or guides and wanting to get dinner. I am guessing they change the performance times according to sunset so check this. When you get your ticket, make sure to get the synopsis leaflet which is helpful as it explains what the show is about. They have the leaflet in a number of languages. You are free to take photographs and videos. I really enjoyed it. Without spoiling it too much, it really amazed me how these gentlemen performed for so long. I suggest not sitting in the front row as there is a part which is quite quick but they use fire and it became very hot and full of smoke (even though I was sitting a few rows up, I could still feel it). Apparently, there are two shows in the evening. I definitely suggest the sunset one. If like me, you get bitten by anything and everything, then use deet! When you leave, the monkeys are still about outside so just be mindful if you are carrying bottles of water or anything that will attract their attention.

We were amazed how long the men “sang” for - non stop for about an hour. It was very interesting to watch and learn the story being portrayed. Lovely ambience as the sun sets. TAKE A CUSHION! Both myself and my young daughter had sore bums by the end of it - sitting on concrete steps.

I found the dance average, though my family was quite thriller about the performance. While the setting, evening breeze, fire-heavy performance was mesmerizing in bits and pieces and the funny rendition by Hanoman was laugh-worthy but I didn't find enough to keep me hooked for the entire ~60 minutes. I was more interested in the sunset scenery at Uluwatu.

Do book your tickets in advance through various tour websites or through your hotel as it can get very crowded. Also, try to arrive a bit early (maybe by 5:30-5:40 for the 6 PM performance) as the best seats could else be gone. The best seats are the ones in middle in the central arena or at best on the far side (farthest from temple area).

Everything about it was amazing. The dance, the ambiance, the story, everything! The view is breathtaking. It is a must see whenever you go to Bali. Of course you can only see the performance if the weather is good, because the show is held out in the open area.
My tips for future traveler: if you come during holiday season (high season) do come early so you can get the best sitting position. Dont forget to prepare your camera, the memory card, the batteries so you wont miss the opportunity to capture the experience.

The Kecak dance narrates the episodes where Ramayana was sent to exile by his father King Dasaratha because of an evil trick by his stepmother Kaikeyi. Uluwatu’s setting matches with the deep monkey forest where Rama is accompanied by his wife Sita and loyal younger brother Laksamana. Later, Ravana who knew of this set out to kidnap Sita. Later, with the help of the monkey king Hanuman and his monkey troops, the two brothers rescue Sita and the lovers are finally reunited right after the setting sun. We had enjoyed the trip very much.

50k entrance fee for the temple, 150k for the show that takes about a hour. Nice to see, but be aware the temple closes right after the show. Show is a 17:55. Better come earlier.
