The area
Neighborhood: Anping District/ Annan District
Anping District is the area first developed in Taiwan. It is also the key to Taiwan’s involvement in the international community. The two famous historic monuments, Anping Fort (a.k.a. Fort Zeelandia) and Eternal Golden Castle leave behind them the traces of international trade made by various countries. Another historic monument that stands the test of time is Tree House, in which beautiful stories were created along with the running water in the canal in the course of history.
The National Museum of Taiwan History in the form of green building stands in Annan District. Next to the coastal Cihcao Dajhong Temple is the amazingly gorgeous green tunnel formed by mangroves. Moving slowly in the river course on a pipe raft, you will be greeted by hermit crabs and mudskippers. The sunlight glitters in the woods. This will be like a tranquil journey in the no-man Amazon. What comes next is Luermen River estuary. People can enjoy the beautiful sunset in the Natural Defence of the Capital and also visit the one and only temple which has two barefooted door gods of foreign descent, guarding General Jheng Chengkong, making the trip to Tainan full of stories and mysteries.

You won't miss it if you are going for the Sicao Green Tunnel boat ride. It's right next to the huge parking lot. The temple looks big but quite empty with not that many visitors on the day we were there. Do go around the back and see the important sights. This was the battle field so there's a lot to see.

Big and beautiful Chinese temple of Taiwan. The temple architecture is really very beautiful and massive.
The temple is not very old but is a very important religious center for people of Taiwan and as informed people from around the country visit it.
Good to give a visit if around

Dajhong Temple is huge and the decoration is grand and impressive. However, I think these reasons are not good enough to justify a special trip here.
I will skip the green tunnel boat ride. The waterway is pretty narrow and the sandbags at the sides make the place feel rather artificial. The boat has no chairs and but stools for people to sit. If you are riding, I will recommend to put on the hat which will protect from sun as well as leaves/branches that may drop on you during the ride. Overall I will not recommend this as it feels more touristy rather than a nature attraction.

While waiting to take the Sihcao mangrove tour, one can just wander around and admire this humongous temple. There is also a tiny museum next to the temple that features some of the species from the river/sea.

This was a Taoist built to commemorate all mankind and their contributions. It is located next to the entrance to the Sichao boat ride.
The temple is very huge and has lots of colours. The roof has lots of intricate carvings and sculptures of different deities.

This is a huge temple, located next to the Sihcao canal.
While parts of the temple feel more of a theme park than an actual temple (due to the excessive usage of gold in it), its sheer size is very impressive.
Make sure to check out the back side of the temple - there's a small walkaway which allows you to look down along the canal.
