Placed on the mountain top, remains of Herodes fortress and at the same time a palace equipped with a water system a.o. It is also place and the history of rebels all committing suicide in 73 C.E.

We had a fabulous day driving into the dead sea and stopped here to take the cable car for great views of the surrounding area. Didn't have to wait long, easy parking and limited queue for the cable car when we visited.

I visited it during thedau. But I saw a sign whichsays it starts at 9pm on weekdays

I don't think so--I didn't see any guides hanging around. There is an audio guide you can rent, and the map they hand out is full of information.
