We visited this beautiful site last weekend on an absolutely brilliant sunny and warm day and really loved it. The Castle was interesting to explore and the mill was informative and illustrated a bygone age. However best of all was the idyllic setting - we...More

Bank Holiday Monday 7 may 18, My husband and I decided to visit Carew Castle. The present castle, which replaced an earlier stone keep, is constructed almost entirely from the local Carboniferous limestone, except for some of the Tudor architectural features such as the window...More

A very impressive castle sitting alone in clear fields and beside a wide river. It really is quite a site. Being so imposing standing alone, it offers plenty of opportunities for panoramic photos from different sides at different times of the day with the changing...More

Went here 23/5/18. A fascinating place with spectacular views of the tidal river. Lots of wildlife in and around the castle and a tidal mill just down the lane. It's a hot sunny day, which helped. Have seen lots of fish jumping, seagulls, cormorant, swallows...More

A surprising great day out with organised activities that kept the little ones amused while others enjoyed the castle. Recently revisited it after closing and walked to the mill and around the lake as the sun was setting and the castle was reflected - beautiful.

This will not be my longest review, but it will be one of the ones I will take great pleasure in writing. I loved it. The staff in the shop were lovely, there was a small but informative booklet as part of the entrance and...More

Carew Castle is a glorious place to explore, full of twists, turns, old stone chambers, and spiral stairways. Much remains of the castle fabric, enough to understand the grandeur of its early days. Viewed from outside the castle looks surprisingly complete with the four curtain...More

As a local I have visited this castle many times, the interior is interesting but for me the exterior makes it. Convenient parking and a great circular walk taking in the tidal mill and bridge.

Plenty of activities for kids including archery (not sure if this is only run through the school hols as we visited at Easter). The mill is a bit of a trek with young children but interesting and interactive. Very dog friendly and free parking too!

A lot of the Castle and grounds are outdoor but a significant amount of the Castle is undercover. The Tidal Mill is all indoor, there is a short 10 minute walk to get from the Castle to the Mill.

We do not currently have a café on site, we hope to open one for the 2018 season. However, there is a small tea room near the Mill that opens in school holidays and the Carew Inn just across the road from the Castle and... More
