We left from Wakefield Quay and caught The Ferry across to Boulder Bank and were given the key to go inside to the top. Lovely views all around and it was a good walk on the large stones to the lighthouse and onto the old baches on the beach before our pick up by The Ferry and return trip to the Quay. A lot of history to read about on Wakefield Quay. Well worth the visit.

The Boulder Bank is an interesting stroll out along a natural break water. We didn't go the whole length, but may go back one day.

Walking the Boulder Bank from the eastern end, accessed by driving to Glenduan, is an interesting and energetic expedition. Views back across the estuary towards the hills and city are stunning on a fine day. However, the track is roughly formed over boulders and requires very good footwear, at the very least solid walking or running shoes, and good balance. Watching your feet while walking means that the view is downwards a lot of the time, especially once you get about 20 minutes along the Boulder Bank. The sea shore is not visible from the track either, so you need to walk up and over to see and enjoy it. Take water if you are planning a long walk, and in the summer a hat and sunscreen as the track is very exposed. Despite these issues, the Boulder Bank walk is unique and at least a little bit of it should be done by all visitors to Nelson.

The boulder bank offers great views and if you are a geology buff, it is a good place to visit as you can see the source of the rocks that from the boulder bank. Its a nice easy walk but make sure you have water with you.

Had a great walk along the boulder bank. Got dropped over by charter boat from near The surf rescue building. Walked along the boulder bank, had a picnic lunch halfway along then onto the lighthouse, which had been opened up for us to enjoy the amazing views from here, then a short wait for the boat to pick us up and deliverus back to the departure area. Good sturdy footwear is a must for walking a long the boulder bank.

The cars line up, and people of all ages that can walk on the beach, enjoy walking sitting, building with the stones, looking across the bay at the beautiful scenery. Tranquility. And there are public toilets there.

We were on a holiday break, driving around the Nelson area and out of curiosity, ventured up a slightly rough side road after seeing a sign 'Boulder Bank'. Glad we went there-we were fascinated to learn that it was formed naturally.
