Dated about 1553 years, these famous Mayan pyramids are located an hour and a half from Merida. Chichen Itza's name derives from the Mayan words "Chi" (mouth), "Chen" (well), "Itza" (the name of the people of this region). The site is divided into three areas, the Northern group (distinctly Toltec) the Core group (early period) and a third group known as the Old Chichen. guided tour

Been on my bucket list for many years. We got to the site very early we were first in and had 30 minutes to take our photographs before all of the tour buses arrived. Would recommend this as it then becomes very busy. Amazing place...More

The Mexicans treat this place as an amusement park. The vendors were in the dozens and very aggressive. The signage at the site is poor or non existent. You have to hire a private guide to learn anything and I don’t think they have a...More

While it's the iconic Mexican site I'll start by saying Teotihuacan is better. Having said that Chichen Itza is excellent and definitely a must see. Cost to get in 254 Pesos that you pay in two instalments at two windows next to each other, one...More

The main pyramid is an impressive site - and if you enjoy touring archaeological sites - this one is worth visiting. The site itself is flat - which makes it easier than some sites in the Yucatan to tour. However, there isn't a lot of...More
