Overview
More
The world's first Unzoo project is located at Taranna, Tasmania, about one hour from Hobart and 10kms before Port Arthur. The Unzoo is an innovative and holistic wildlife experience dedicated to showing you the unique animals and plants of Tasmania while taking a lead role in preserving the critically endangered Tasmanian devil. Join our guided wildlife encounters and come face to face with our famous devils and endemic quolls, pademelons, rosellas, kangaroos, possums, frogmouths and birds of prey. More than two km of trails take you through the Tasmanian Native Botanic Garden from tall tree forest to the Norfolk Bay seaside. The principle of the Unzoo is to immerse you in our natural environment so, for instance, we have removed our boundary fences so the local wild animals can come and go as they please. Allow two hours for your visit or add an hour for a 4WD research and conservation adventure to see how we are managing the last safe wild Tasmanian devils on Earth. The Unzoo is open every day (except 25 Dec) from 9am. We schedule our wildlife encounters each half hour or so, that's 15 every day.

Though this wildlife park is quite small it is still a great place to visit. The keeper talks are particularly informative. And the ‘devil’ enclosures allow visitors really close access to a unique and special animal. I particularly like the way some of the animals...More

This is a lovely experience, especially for animal lovers and for those who appreciate the great work being done here to preserve the devils. We didn't have little kids with us, but they, in particular, would love this.

OK it’s all about the devils which is OK. You will get to see them up close especially during feeding. You are so close you hear them growl over the food. These folks do good things with the admission money so it is most worthwhile....More

This is just one of the many Tasmanian Devil Sanctuaries all over Tasmania. While it claims to be "unzoo", only the rest of the animals are in uncaged enclosures. The Tasmanian Devils understandably, are in enclosures. The keeper provided very interesting information about the animals...More

We had an amazing visit here. Opened a gate into a field of friendly kangaroos, which we fed for quite some time. Great photo ops, gentle, food pellets provided by the Unzoo. Then we saw the Devils as well. Great natural habitat, very manageable size....More
