the shape of this stone mountain is just beautiful. You can't help admire our Creator's wonderful creation. What is more amazing are the goats we saw on top of the mountain. They looked like topper on a cake. How did they ever reach that height, we've wondered.

Mount Matarem gives a lovely view of the beach, while the waves crashes on the rocks on the beach. You can climb up the hill for a better view or a jump shot. The wild pandan on the way is also very interesting.

If you are adventury enough, you can climb down to the beach and up the rocks for a different angle. Very lovely. Be careful though, it may not be slippery. From there, you can climb up to the road.

Love this structure, my tour guide says this is one of the favorite spot of the province to have a photo where you can pretend to be pushing the rock and pretend to be as Superwoman.

Majestic, scenic and the splendour of the heavens and the earth! Get a walking stick and have your Ivatan guide share with you his love of his Batanes. The cows, the carabaos and the goats all pepper the slopes happily grazing until their owner comes to fetch them. Don't be surprised to find some solitary motocycle parked long the road; the Ivatans are an honest and dignified people and they respect each others property. Best to take the local Tricycle so you can feel the wind and the warmth of the atmosphere. Of course, forget about any hairdo; it's full wind all over!

these are not pictures of the mountain and other people seem to be talking about another thing that is not the mountain. now, for the review of the actual mt. matarem. climbing it costs p1500 in bisumi tours if i am not mistaken. because my boyfriend and i took many breaks with our guide it took us around more than 2 hours to reach the peak, and more than 2 hours to get back to the bottom. we spent around 5 hours here. when asked, people would say that climbing and descending would talk 2-3 hours each because the mountain really is steep and slippery at points. the first half hour is the most tiring one, but it gets better after that, then some steep points right before the peak. the peak has a view like no other. riding a plane does not match this view. you see bot sides of batan, and some of sabtang, itbayat, and other islands. our tour guide says that on very clear days you could even see taiwan haha.
