Best Roman Ruins in Portugal. Well preserved mosaics. Modern museum on site that has interesting artifacts found in the excavation. Cafe is excellent (if you have the time)! Food isn’t expected as fast as in the U.S. Chicken salad, and two ‘toasts’ were some of...More

Probably the best Roman remains we have seen so far on our travels. But then again we haven’t travelled in Italy yet. It’s the sheer size of the excavation that is great. It would be really great if you could get a guided tour with...More

As noted this is a fairly large site needing a good walk to cover all the ruins. Some of the best Roman mosaics are well preserved and restored and worth the visit on their own merit. On site museum has an interesting collection of artifacts.

We dropped in here in the late afternoon on our way to Coimbra after a busy day seeing Alcobaca and Batalha. We were very pleased we did. We had only about 80 minutes before closing but we were able to walk around the whole area....More

This is an enormous site! There are some sign boards, but there is also a booklet available for purchase. Also a museum to walk through. Our visit was very rainy, so we didn't get to explore everything as much as we would have liked. Plan...More

We have seen many Roman ruins and these were quite nice. It is a rather long, for us seniors, circular route once you get to the ruins from the ticket office and restroom building. We wanted to maximize the sights we saw while minimizing the...More

This museum and the associated ruins are definitely worth a stop. My understanding (supported by our experiences) was that the Camino from Lisbon to Santiago follows Roman military roadways, so it is not surprising that Roman artifacts are to be found. The cafe in the...More

Three are several different threads for Tripadvisor reviews of this place. It is highly confusing. I chose the one with the largest number and most recent reviews. I read about the ruins when I was planning for our trip to Portugal. I was so intrigued...More

We always hear about Pompei and other Italian-based ruins, but nothing about Roman ruins elsewhere such as Tunisia (a well-preserved Colossuem) or Portugal. What a shame, because I found walking around here much more interesting than Pompei. It may not have the extent of buildings,...More

We thoroughly enjoyed spending several leisurely hours visiting the extensive Roman ruins at Conimbriga and the adjoining museum. If anything, we could have allowed even more time for our visit. We walked around the ruins first and then visited the museum. That sequence gave us...More
