Weissenstein Castle is the summerpalace of the Counts of Schönborn for more than 300 years. Built by Princebishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn it was never destroyed in any war. Famous artists and architects, like Johann Dientzenhofer, Giovanni Francesco Marchini or Franz Michael Rottmayer worked here and created an astonishing residence. The Castle also contains a collection of paintings of that period, e.g. Rubens, van Dyck and many more.

A collection of amazing Baroque treasures housed in opulent surrounds. I must make a special mention of our guide. His expertise is German explanation of the highlights of the castle. He went above and beyond his allotted task to help us apprecuate the finer points...More

Elector Lord Franz had lots of money so he built a monster palace in 1720 and loaded it with art and sculptures of himself. Titian, Rubens and even a Carvaggio on display with hundreds of others in this chilly place out in the countryside. Worth...More

Without any planning beforehand, we stumbled across this huge palace and into their special tour for kids, which they run a few times a year during school holidays. It was nicely done and entertaining without being boring for our five year old. He got to...More

This is a stunningly beautiful country palace (German "Schloss") close to the village of Pommersfelden. It was built in the early 18th century and served as a summer residence for the dukes of Bamberg. You can not visit during winter - only from April through...More

A grand palace with a monumental staircase, she'll grotto room & beautiful marble hall. Entry is by guided tour only (in German, and rather sparse sheets in English given to help). Surrounding park couldn't be accessed with pushchair as it was through a turnstile. Small...More

I can only write down that the tour (€ 7.00 a head) is very interesting, with a well-informed guide (tour is in German), because picture taking inside was prohibited. Outside the mansion is very impressive. Parking is free, with a number of places next to...More

From the outside the schloss is very impressive and has obviously had some recent restoration. The interior though was disappointing. There is also no garden just parkland. You have to take a guided tour which is in German but you are given a sheet to...More

Schloss Weissenstein amazes from the very first contact with its magnitude - it's bigger than many royal palaces, even though it had belonged and still belongs to a noble, yet not royal, family. You can also see this magnitude inside, as the biggest room is...More
