From the top of its 905 metres, the sacred Basque Country mountain of La Rhune provides one of the best panoramas imaginable (rated *** in the Michelin Guide). As far as the eye can see, it takes in the peaks of the Pyrenees and follows the Basque coast bordering the Atlantic Ocean from San Sebastián to Biarritz and on to the beaches of Les Landes.

Wonderful slow ride along nature surrounded by mountains. The train takes you to the summit of the Rhune (905 m) where you can enjoy a wonderful 360 degrees panorama on the ocean and the Pyrénées. 19€ for return ticket. You can hike down or do...More

Spectacular view, but they don’t tell you that you will have to wait 1hour and a half standing in the sun to go down again.. with crying kids everywhere.. horror. Go early in the morning or do not go at all!!!

This train journey offers breathtaking views over the Mediterranean and start of the Pyrénées. It’s busy, we arrived at 7.00am (office opened 7.45am) most trains were fully booked by 8.15am. It is possible to book in advance but as cloud free days are optimum for...More

A fun ride to the top of the mountain on an open cog train. We went up and down on the train – the alternative, to walk, looked like it would take a long time. Tickets can be booked online but not same-day. It can...More

First remark: la Rhune is a viewpoint on 900 mtrs high, has nothing to do with a ruine or old castle (my own bad interpretation, so don’t make the same mistake). We took the train up and down, same route. One time is enough, so...More

The vie on top of amazing (aside from the TV mast). The little train is a fun way to get up to the top and has its charm but it is very expensive for a short journey. Still, it is a fascinating piece of history.

Fun rickety old train which takes 35mins to climb the substantial mountain - not recommended for those nervous of heights given the sheer drops along the way. Unsurprisingly it is much cooler at the summit, and if it's cloudy your view will be of the...More

Used the train on a walking holiday. Lovely old cog train with open sides. On a good day you can see for miles. It gets busy in the summer so check when you want to travel. LIke all mountains check the weather.

This old fashioned open train ride was a wonderful experience. Climbing La Rhune at a steady but amazing rate, it finishes at some 900m at the summit. The views along the way of the mountainous countryside are gorgeous. At the top is even better and...More
