I and my girlfriend were new to scuba. Prior to our first visit to Koh Samui this last January I had only been snorkeling a few times, and my girlfriend not even that. Her inexperience led to some special needs, but more on that later. We chose Discovery Dive Center because of the many excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and similar sites. Once we had signed up for the three-day open water training we received a link for the online portion of the course. This is a very well produced and informative class developed by PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors). PADI is the gold standard world wide for scuba training and certification. We were picked up at out hotel on time and taken to our training locations. The first day of in-person training took place in the safety of a swimming pool. For days 2 and 3 we were brought to the Discovery Dive Center Pier, where we took the company boat to train in several of the beautiful dive locations accessible to Koh Samui. The culture of Discovery Dive Center is all about safety, knowledge, and fun. The owner, Eric, is an honest and thoughtful businessman, organized, and a good communicator. He has attracted an excellent international team. Over two separate Koh Samui trips (I have now had 18 dives with this company) we have enjoyed learning from several excellent instructors, including: Zoe, Pierre, Dion, and Margaux. Highest praise for this group, who we now think of as extended family. A quick note about my girlfriend. As mentioned above she had little experience in the ocean prior to our first scuba lessons. The skills required for PADI Open Water certification — breathing through the regulator mouthpiece, buoyancy, and clearing the mask of water — were all new and daunting to her. She would not have been able to continue except for the kindness and strong support of the diving team, especially Zoe. Zoe is a gem! Overall, Discovery Dive Center has my highest rating. There is no better choice on Koh Samui. We can’t wait to return and dive with these wonderful people again.

We had such a great experience with Discovery Divers from start to finish. They fetched us bright at early from the opposite side of the island, we met our instructor Yuan, got our gear sorted out and were on the boat. The boat was very modern and comfortable Our dive was great. On our first dive at Twins, Yuan took us through the practise in a shallow area and made sure we had the basics nailed before we started exploring. This helped my confidence a lot. Once we started our underwater adventure Yuan constantly checked on us and made sure our oxygen levels were good and that our buoyancy was correct. We saw SO many beautiful fish and a blue spotted ray which was incredible. We had a delicious lunch on the boat and chatted to many different people from all around the world which was also really enjoyable. On our second dive we went to Shark Island and I really enjoyed the angles of the coral reef. Eric also told us how to react if a trigger fish tried to attack which calmed my nerves and we did see one on each dive. Yuan saw both of them first and made us aware to avoid them and he always put himself between the fish and us. We had such a fun and interesting trip and would recommend discovery divers to anyone! Thanks for the great time!!

Hi Hannah, Thanks again for joining us on our trip and I am glad that you enjoyed the dives as well as the safety aspect we are known for. I am also pleased to have personally spent the day on the boat with you. Yes, those triggers can be nasty sometimes. We hope to see you back here again some day for your PADI open water course

Third time diving for me and first time for my partner (we did the discover scuba diving day trip). Day started with quick briefing at the offices then 1-1.5 hour speed boat to Ko Tao. First dive walking into the sea at Mango Bay, then lunch and second dive out further out to sea to a maximum depth of 12 metres. Amazing day! Big positives were: + Eric was a pleasure to deal with and was easy to get hold of on WhatsApp and email. Friendly, reassuring and informative. + light and easy pre-reading that can be done online beforehand + prescription goggles for people wearing glasses were available + Eric arranged transfers and was kind enough to drop us off at a different location even though it was more inconvenient + diving instruction with Ewan was fantastic - thorough, well explained and lots of hands on assistance once we were in the water + big and well organised crew - everything was fuss free and smooth and they were very friendly. 3-4 people per instructor + dive sites were great - being a discover diving experience and with our first site walking in from the bay I assumed there might not be much to see but I was wrong! Lots of coral and fish, beautiful sites. + plenty of time actually diving. I have done two discover dives before in Oman and Egypt, where dive time was more like 30 mins, whereas here we had two dives of around 45 mins each time underwater. Only thing I would say for other beginners is make sure to wash the goggles out with enough soap between dives otherwise they get a bit blurry!

HI Marcus, it was a pleasure dealing with you and even more so finally meeting you in person. In the 22 years we have been in business we have had thousands of novice divers so we do have it pretty much down. We do like to give as much dive time as possible as our staff also wants to spend as much time underwater as they can as it is their passion. We will take your comment about being more proactive in defogging masks again with soap between dives as we always appreciate feedback to improve our service.

We had a vacation in Thailand in February/March 2022. Few days before our departure I decided to take a tour with Discovery Divers. They managed to add me and my girlfriend to a group of licensed divers but as non-licensed ones we had our own instructor and did the dive on our own with him. Pierre was super helpful, especially when my girlfriend had a small problem with ears in the beginning of the dive. Unfortunately she was not able to do the second one but the captain gave her snorkeling set and show her nice location where she could observe underwater life. For me both dives were incredible, Pierre gives you all the information and support you need. Lots of fishes around the Sail Rock, visibility was about 10metres. There is a quick lunch between dives (chicken, rice and vegetable) and all the time there are cold soft drinks available on the boat. The sea was rather calm on that day so I cannot complain about some troubles with speedboat. Ride was pretty calm and very fast. If we come back to the island one day, I will definitely make a diving license with Discovery Divers. Super friendly, very funny and nice guys!

HI George, Thank you for the nice review. We are glad that you joined us for our Sail rock trip and you were happy with Pierre. Pierre along with the rest of our multi-national full-time team has been with us for many years and is great with beginners. We hope you will return for the open water course with us in the future.

My girlfriend and I went out snorkelling to Ko Tao with Discovery. The locations were excellent and we saw lots of fish (including many parrot fish, thousands of “Doreys”, but no Nemo :)) a Sting Ray and a Moray eel. Unfortunately my girlfriend got sea sick and she had to skip the second dive. A big thank you to Dion who was leading the trip and really went the extra mile to take care of my girlfriend, even staying with us for 30 mins after the trip to allow her to recover. We really appreciated that.
