About
Wine and History have been only one for centuries at the Commanderie de Peyrassol. Located at the village of Flassans-sur-Issole, among the hills of the Var department, the Commanderie de Peyrassol was created in the 13th century by the Order of the Knights Templar. Its wide fertile land has been an unavoidable place for many pilgrims looking for rest during their journey to the Holy Land. Emblematic of Provencal heritage, the winery has always been an agricultural and welcoming place that produced wine. Faithful to the spirit it always had since its creation by the Order of the Knights Templar, the Commanderie de Peyrassol winery invites you to discover its cellars and taste its Cotes de Provence wines. You will be welcomed in a sumptuous place by our friendly team which will make you discover the winery and will provide you valuable advice on tasting. Peyrassol is also a venue dedicated to contemporary art where individual works, in symbiosis with the outstanding setting, could express themselves to the full. The domaine is now the premier monumental sculpture park in Europe and brings together in one place the work of more than fifty top artists. At the Commanderie de Peyrassol, art is everywhere, and the works arranged around the property, in carefully-chosen settings, invite visitors to ponder, to marvel, to dream and to be amused as they wander around at leisure.

Leading excellence in art, gastronomy, wine and art de vivre, Commanderie de Peyrassol has it all, exceptional exhibitions and public art installations, astonishing wines, sensational nature and really-nice, dedicated and knowledgeable staff. Check the incredible rotating exhibition programme and make sure to spend time in this wonderful property, the epitome of France’s taste, aesthetics and a sense of details in all its forms. It's a wonderful place, and a unique setting. Spend a day or two to try the wines, the tastings with the experts, get lost in the garden and enjoy the historical artifacts and presentations. The lobby on arrival is impressive and Chez Jeannette, you'll find the best design, and excellent gastronomy and of course wines. Commanderie de Peyrassol makes for a wonderful weekend of culture and experiential bonanza. It's close and well signaled on maps. Easy to find. The best the South of France has to offer. I highly recommend it.

We booked a table for my wife's birthday as we have been visiting Peyrassol for many years with family and friends for lunch and to buy their lovely wine. Lunch at Bistrot de Lou is advertised as tapas - if you can call 4 small storage jars of refrigerated dishes tapas. The website is very misleading. However, the real issue was the service or lack of; the 'tapas' was banged down on the table by an uninterested waitress, served with pieces of baguette from a brown paper bag and when asked if she would explain each dish, were told that she couldn't do so in English! - a French explanation would have been fine. We had no idea what we were eating other than some roughly cut tomatoes topped with tapenade and a jar of cold pasta. Dessert was the same - figs with mousse almost thrown at us. The toilet did not have a lock nor a wash basin. the entire experience was laughable, and we will only return to Peyrassol to buy wine from the charming lady in the wine cave. Not good value for €25 each

Dear Sir, we thank you for taking the time to write us your feelings. Le Bistrot de Lou does indeed offer Provençal appetizers served in the form of 4 savory jars and 1 sweet jar. They are prepared, simmered and served every day by our restaurant. We regret that the service could not describe their composition in English to you when you came. We apologize for this.
The restrooms you describe are not the ones dedicated to our guests, which are of course equipped with locks and hand washers. Please know that we have listened to your comments which will help us to improve our service.
We are however delighted that you enjoy coming and returning to La Commanderie de Peyrassol for our wines and our walk between art, vine and forest. We look forward to welcoming you back to La Commanderie de Peyrassol, Audrey Vau Michel, Director of Wine Tourism

it is such a pity that one person can ruin a what is supposed to be a very pleasant evening in a heavenly location and the reputation of a good restaurant. Marine at Chez Jeanette managed to do just that.
whatever we asked for the answer was a very sharp NO! with her eyelashes pointing up and with a school head master's expression, rather than a waitress' in a five star restaurant serving her guests. We asked if the terrace door next to our table could be open. We had initially booked outside but because of the rain it was not possible. The reason we were apprehensive was of course Covid as we were vulnerable due to an asthmatic condition and my husband's age. Second question was if it was possible to have a charcuterie board instead of the 2 choices of apetisizer that I could not eat. The answer was another NO! WE DONT HAVE IT. I suggested to have the cheese as a starter and that was accepted. Third one was we asked if there was another type of cheese other than goat, the answer was another big NO!
There are ways and ways of saying no, even when the answers are categorically impossible, especially if you want to please a guest, rather than get a special pleasure of upsetting them. Saying NO was a matter of great satisfaction for Marine and she was

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,
We would like to thank you for taking the time to write to us about your experience. We apologize for the manner of our waitress who obviously did not meet your expectations and did not know how to compromise on your remarks.
We take great pride in the care we give to our customers and are sincerely sorry for the situation you describe. We hope that the culinary proposal of the Chef was able to compensate for this lack of finesse. We can only apologize. We look forward to welcoming you back to La Commanderie de Peyrassol, Audrey Vau Michel, Director of Wine Tourism.

My wife surprised me with a visit to this vineyard because I am a history guy. I was not disappointed! The sommelier we had during our tasting was excellent, but the Templar history was the best part. I must say that the wine was exemplary and we took a few bottles home with us. The drive out there is a bit in the country but well worth it!

We are glad that you had a historic and enjoyable time with us! Eight hundred years of history is not a small thing indeed! The tour in the horse-drawn carriage is full of anecdotes about this for your next visit. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you again, Audrey Vau Michel, Wine tourism Director

We went to the vineyard to do the tour and wine tasting. The tour was brilliant - our tour guide Antoine gave lots of interesting information about how they make the wine and answered all our questions. It was great value for money - €20 for an hour tour and then we tried 6 wines. Would definitely recommend this to anyone even slightly interested in wine.

Peyrassol was recommended to us but even so, it really was a sheer delight. We didn't have a reservation but they fitted us in for a late lunch at the delightful restaurant overlooking the vines and flags. Service first rate. Food excellent - the veal chop was exceptional, as was the deconstructed lemon tart. And of course, great wine (we went by the glass). Afterwards we spent the afternoon touring the outdoors sculpture exhibition amongst the trees nearby - fascinating. The tasting room is also impressive from an architectural perspective. Great way to pass a few hours. Recommended.

We made an overnight trip to the Commanderie so we could appreciate the art and have dinner at the restaurant. Loved the overall grounds as we rented one of their golf cart to tool around and see the vineyards as well as the sculptures. Very impressive collection. Dinner Chez Jeannette was delicious and very special in the night air. Our hotel room was at the side property called La bastide de Rouviere and it was like staying at our own country house. Lovely pool, nice outdoor spaces and delicious breakfast buffet. Highly recommend if you love Rose wine, modern art and provence countryside!

We stayed in this hotel during our honeymoon trip this summer.
The place is amazingly peaceful and perfect to escape from the city life.
We´ve booked a normal double room and when we arrived we´ve been upgraded for free with aa huge romantic apartment in the side building.
It was an incredible surprise, as we were tired, traveling all day so we were so happy to get this lovely present for our honey moon!
We also found a bottle of the local vinery so we enjoyed the wine in the big cozy living room, among the books and paintings.
Thank you so much for your hospitality and the amazing surprise you did for our romantic trip! We will never forget it, this was like a fairytale during our summer honeymoon!
We had also towels for the pool placed in the forests so I could swim in the morning before the lovely breakfast!
I wish I could stay there more days so we´ll definitely come back again soon! :)
I recommend this pace as unique, we travel a lot , also via the whole Europe every year, but we loved this place and will visit for sure again! PS: We rare come back to the hotels we usually stay, but this is a winner! Thank you again!

A great place to visit .The art collection is spectacular and displayed around in the park ,but also inside the museum .The architecture of the reception / winestore and other buildings is a piece of art by itself . A wonderful example how traditional old environment mixed in with spectacular art .We had a fantastic lunch at Chez Janette .The food and its preparation was one of the better meals that I ever had .
We will be back again to meet spring here with friends and then also book a stay over

The service here is the worst I have received in any arts institution. The staff prioritizes their lunch hour over customer service and treated us very rudely. They locked exhibition rooms before the lunch closing time and proceeded to scold us for asking them to open them. The park is nice but unless a change in staffing is made, be prepared to be abused. This is unfortunate as the park itself (or at least the little that we saw of it before being kicked out) is nice.

Hello Isadora,
Thank you for your feedback, we are deeply sorry for the inconvenience. Unfortunately we have no choice but to close our art centre between 1pm and 2.30pm during the summer. This information is provided to you on arrival. Again, I can only profusely apologize if you have been mistreated. This is not the way we do things, as we love to share the Philippe Austruy Collection with our visitors. Audrey Vau Michel, Wine Tourism Director.
