The palace and surrounding area are must visit. Check for special programs, plays, concerts, re-enactments, light shows, definitely worth visiting. This was the summer house of the Marquis de Pombal, the prime minister in the XVIII century who was responsible for the reconstruction plans for...More

Has a nice large garden with the powerful fountain that reminds you have a Gaudi structure from Barcelona. The palace interior is impressive with nice tiles and ceilings. Only shame is the lack of interior furniture but that is a result of historical circumstances. If...More

Make sure you go down the well and keep going till you come out of the bottom in the waterfalls. It is so magical. 90% of time in garden 10% in house. The house is beautiful too though. Don't drive there as it is a...More

Lovely gardens and well preserved palace with interior walls covered with ancient tiles. The right spot for all kind of indoor/outdoor cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, festivals, gastronomy fair, ...) or just to relax or for a nice walk. For all ages. Sometimes could be a...More

We found this palace quite by accident - we saw a signboard while driving on the freeway and decided to go. A treat it was indeed! Beautiful from the outside with pink walls and tiles. The house was sadly closed for a school trip (so...More

Scenic formal gardens with good plasterwork and tiles in an unfurnished house. Antithesis of the (overly-)touristy attractions in Lisbon. It was so pleasant going around the house and grounds and not hearing English being spoken by other visitors! 10 min walk from Oeiras station (on...More

No you have to negotiate stirs to go in and to see the lower part and the garden . It was built in the years of the XVIII century where people did not think about it I think even Windsor was built like it
