We walked up to the chapel each night at dusk. Serene and beautiful. It is off the beaten path, but well worth at least a visit. You can enjoy the scenery of the entire valley and appreciate the beauty of the Black Forest

We walked up to this lovely chapel perched high atop the beautiful town of Gengenbach and were pleasantly surprised by it's small but quaint interior. It took us about 20 minutes to hike up to it but the views overlooking the town and surrounding countryside were well worth the hike. If you are active travellers like us, this walk/hike is incredibly enjoyable.

We walked up to this charming church which is on the St. James' way marked by an orange shell. and also on the ancient pilgrimage route along the Camino de Santiago. It was a steep climb rewarded by magnificent views of the town of Gengenbach.

We became intrigued about this chapel after we saw it lit in the night and wondered what this place was, as it looked kind of magical in between the winter fog and as a part of the illumination of Gengenbach. The next morning we started walking towards it very naturally and that led to a longer hike decorated by a painting exhibition. We went to the Jakobskapelle and followed the path for two more buildings in the surroundings of Gengenbach for a walk of approximately 1:30h. Highly recommended!

There are lovely views from the top, so it's worth the walk up. I think it took us longer than most to find our way up because we took the roads less traveled by... we assumed we'd be able to see the church en route, but we couldn't. So I'd advise following the signs :) We actually didn't go into the church as there was a wedding on, but we just went for the views anyway!

I could see the building sitting high above Gengenbach so I set out to find it. I followed the signs and powered up the road, with it's switchbacks to arrive just before dusk. Being winter, I was all alone up there and it was so lovely in the snow. There are 360 degree views up there. The chapel itself was not open, but the walk was still well worth it. A little way down there is a seat with wonderful views over Gengenbach and surrounds.
On the way down i found a steep set of stairs that made a short-cut back to town, but I thoroughly enjoyed the walk up with it's varied views back toward town.

This chapel is just outside Gengenbach atop a hill. It is a decent uphill walk to get there. We took the road, but I guess there is a trail thru the woods that is steeper, but shorter. The chapel is a stop on the Jacobs Way section that goes thru this part of Germany. Great view of Gengenbach and surrounding area from the chapel and the outlook near it.
