Just great scenery to gorge. Very well guided hiking paths, not suitable if you are physically disabled, but paths aren't too difficult. Some stairs and broadwalks are broken and replaced at summer 2020. Easy to find, less than hour drive from Sotkamo adress is Hiidenportintie 86, it takes you to Palolampi parking place. Parking place turns left. End of the road is gravel.…

We followed Google maps to get here, BE CAREFUL if you do. We saw a sign turning right for the park but it was a bit of a dirt road, Google was telling us to go straight, also a dirt road but as Google had never let us down before we went straight thinking there would be another entrance or car park. There wasn't. So follow the signs not Google! So turning back and following the signs it took a while to reach the car park because you have to drive slow. We did the 5 km hike following the purple signs. The first 1 km was fine, then as the path followed the gorge, it did become quite tricky. Then you have to double back so tricky twice. So apart from getting there, the tricky bits and the insects, an OK hike in the middle of nowhere…

We (me, my husband and our two teenage children) really enjoyed this hike. Like the previous reviewer, we also did the 5 km hike. We were told by several different people that we would need about 3 hours to do it, but we finished in 1.5 hours easily, including a short lunch break on the way and a variety of other short stops to take photos, etc. We were very pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the track was. If we had known that (and also known how quickly we could walk it), we would have planned our day differently in order to walk the 10 km track instead. The track reminded me a lot of the Greenstone Track on the South Island of New Zealand, which is one of the most enjoyable tracks that I have ever walked. We made the mistake of forgetting to put our insect repellent in our backpacks. We certainly won't make that mistake again. While the bugs were bearable, they were only just so and they kept us from enjoying the walk to the fullest extent that we otherwise would have (this might explain how/why we walked so fast...) We also made the mistake of not bringing our hiking boots. While the track can certainly be walked in simple sports / running shoes, we would have found it significantly more comfortable and easier if we had brought with us and worn our proper hiking boots. This is because much of the track consists of tree roots as well as rocks. In addition, after rain (with happens there frequently) it can be muddy and slippery. That being said, I wouldn't let the fact of not having proper hiking boots stop me from experiencing this beautiful walk. Sports / running shoes are good enough. We drove to this track from Sotkamo. A few kilometers after you turn off the main highway the road to this track becomes a dirt road. While the road is in good condition, it is nevertheless a dirt road, and you are obliged to drive slower and more carefully. Our GPS grossly miscalculated the time it would take for us to drive the dirt road portion of the route - it nearly doubled the time that it actually took us. If you enjoy hiking and especially enjoy hiking in lush / green environments, then I highly recommend this walk.…
