I mean there isn’t much wrong with this place. It’s a great place of historical significance. Which is awesome. But there isn’t a lot to do. Not something you would really visit many times. Once is already too many.

This place is amazing if you are even slightly interested in NZ history. This is an old fighting Pa site where Maori and British solders had a battle. THIS IS A MUST SEE AS YOU CAN WANDER AROUND ON AND IN THE BATTLE SITE

I remember spending time here when I was growing up in Patea. We spent a long time here today feeling sad that this important historical site has deteriorated over the years but left knowing that the wonderful caretaker is doing everything he can to restore...More

A rather untidy basic attraction , sure it has historical significance but it is a rather run down place. Don't know who administers this property, but it is just grazed with animals. There are some explanation boards that one can read that explains what happened...More

We travelled to Turuturu Mokai pa site after reading the history of the pa and neighbouring redoubt - knowing the history will make this trip a different experience. Imagaining the terrible happenings as we walked through the still very visible earth-works, village sites and redoubt...More

Locked gate. Disappointing. What else can you say. We would have loved to walk around this historic site but sadly are locked out. Signs saying Council dump.

Visited the Mokai to learn more of the history. Unfortunately, although there was some evidence of previous maintenance, looks like work has now stopped. There were no information boards, giving the history, or any future plans of improvement of the area. The sites of the...More

Spent the day in Hawera and after visiting Tawhiti Museum we wanted to learn more about this historic site only to drive there and find gates locked. Very disappointing not to be able to explore more of our historical sites.
