Nice boardwalk out to the lake with lovely mountain views. Pleasant 20 minute stroll each way. Dissapointingly 500 yen to park but I suppose they have to upkeep the boardwalk.

Worth a visit is the Shiretoko Five lakes. It has a broad walk to take in the sights and try bet spotting. At the end of the broad walk, a view of the Shiretoko mountain range greets you. Absolutely stunning. You can go for a...More

We visited in May, and were on our way to the airport, so we didn't have time to do the guided walk. After an all-too-brief walk around the Visitor Centre, we did walk the whole length of the elevated walkway. We didn't see any bears,...More

We visited in May 2018 during the Bears Active Season. Hence we could only tour the Ground Pathways if we were accompanied by a registered tour guide. This made it all the more educational and exciting. =) Our guide was Yuuji Ayano, who could speak...More

Booked a guided tour of the long track. 3km in about 2.5hrs. Not too strenuous but there are some steps and tree roots some might struggle a little with. Lakes are beautiful and mountain backdrop makes for some amazing photos. Sounds like different seasons offer...More

We visited Shiretoko Goko in early October, and were unfortunate that the longer trails around the park were completely closed due to bear activity. The views from the boardwalk were still very good and we were fortunate with the weather to have some blue sky,...More

We took a guided tour during winter to view the lakes which were all frozen. Fantastic view and untouched by man. The whole tour lasted 2 hours and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves trekking through the snow and ice on snowshoes.

October is a bit of an iffy time to visit and we were worried it might rain, but we were quite fortunate that it was merely cloudy and a bit overcast in the early morning. The tops of the 5 (or 6?) peaks were more...More

It was pouring rain when I joined an afternoon tour visiting Shiretoko Goko. Despite this, it did not lose its beauty during the rain. The tour company offered long boots and rain coat for rental at cost.

I reached the visitor center at 4pm only to find out that you need to book a guided tour to have a complete tour of the 5 lakes as the place is in the wild where brown bears roam. The rangers there were very nice...More

The walk only takes a couple of hours and it is at a very leisurely pace, with a lot of stops to take pictures. If you're staying in Utoro, the drive there is less than half an hour.
